Moving to Cape Cod

Well I still live in Mass but now I am moving to Cape Cod this week. I am looking forward to bringing the Jeep onto a beach for the first time. I think I've seen 1 or 2 people on here who live at the Cape.

As for the beaches, they are wicked fun to drive on, I work at one of them in the summer, and can provide you with any info you might need on them. I'm up in Boston for college, but I'll be back soon enough, this friday to be exact.

None. Right now you can drive to, but not on, the beaches for free, but from Memorial day to Labor day, pretty much every beach I can think of requires an annual parking sticker, or you have to pay admissions (for our beach it was $15 for a day, but good all day at 6 other town beaches). Thats just to get into the parking lot.

As for the offroad beaches, there are about 3, Sandy Neck (where I work), Nauset, and Race Point, all of which require stickers. Sandy Neck is an anual pass, no day trips, I believe Race point has day trips and week passes as well as annual, and so doesn't Nauset I think. All beaches are patrolled and the fines can be $100 and up. Nothing is really free on the cape anymore.

That's cool, Ive been to Nauset light but that just for the beach, race point we usually go to once or twice a trip but also to swim however I always see a group of TJ's and other offroaders airing down before heading onto the beach.

As I recall, from mannnnny moons ago, the Wrangler in which I was a passenger was disallowed acesss to Race Point due to inadequate tire width... Any such regs. now, and what might they be..?

**Oh, also, any restrictions re compressed air, potentially-explosive materials, etc., while passing through the Cape Cod Canal Tunnel...??

I don't know much about Race Point, since I work at one of the other beaches. I haven't heard of any tire width rules, was it to skinny or wide?
I know that we have a rim height requirement, and that all tires must be the same size, includeing the spare. I know we don't fail anyone for inspections because they have skinny tires.

As for the CCCT, I don't beleive that you are allowed to transport any dangerous materials through it, you would need to use the bridges. Its mainly a safety reason, as you might know, but we don't want to take any chances in having our passageway blocked. But of course, you would need a permit first before you were allowed access to the tunnel, and as my understanding goes, I believe only residents are allowed permits.

As I recall, insufficient tire width was the issue, as they wanted to avoid having vehicles get stuck.

I'm sure the other beaches do this as well, but its mandatory tire pressure of 18PSI or lower, $75 for each tire if they aren't at this pressure.

i have never seen anyone at race point get turned away due to to narrow it must have been a very small tire.

at night a few addition beaches are open for fishing access. they day is primarily race point and head of the meadow.

As far as permits, they give season and week, they dont issue day passes.

I dont live there or own a house there YET but do attempt to spend as much of my spring/summer/falls out there as possible. I am usually in the wellfleet truro p-town area

Thanks guys. Just got the internet in today. I moved to Chatham but am pretty familiar with the D-Y area. I do that there is a beach on the bay side of Dennis or Yarmouth that allows 4X4 vehicles on and if I remmber correctly, it is near Mayflower/Corporation.
