just saw it and regardless if you're a fan of michael moore or you hate him, it's worth seeing. i really didn't realize how bad we have it as americans when it comes to health care. I think our country could learn a thing or two from our neighbors. anyone else seen it?

the only thing we can learn from socialized medicine is an 80% tax rate.
we have the best health care on the planet.
we also have a bunch of BS that raises the price.
tort reform would be a good place to start.

No...haven't seen it. I don't want to contribute a single penny going into the pocket of that moron.

Before you think we have it bad when it comes to healthcare...please don't base your only facts on that movie. Go do you own research and learn real facts. That movie (and every other movie of that nature...and by that nature I mean the total left-wing liberal nature) plays off of the iggnorance of the people who watch it. It's kind of like how most hard liberals get their votes...banking on the stupidity of their voters.

Don't believe anything that is in Michael Moore movies. They are not even close to documentaries. Read "Michael Moore is a Big Fat White Guy". It's a great book that exposes the true Fraud that he is.

x2
If you watch a Michael Moore movie, spend about a week double checking his claims! He got caught in the past with so many lies and misdirections it's not even funny. Sadly most of this stuff gets swiped under the rag cause it's popular to piss on current administartion and the country :( (and that's extremely sad IMHO).

Not sure if he mentions that, but Canadians often come to US for quite a few procedures for better "service" or "quality" or whatever it's called. Also I have to agree with another statement: socialized medicine is expensive which means taxes and with anything that's socialized it's easily abused and misused and exploited thus increasing the cost, taking it away from the needy and still giving it to those who have the $. On surface and in theory it's great... but when you look at it more... it's not that great. Does that mean with have the best system here? nope. I do think though that it's way better than quite a few other ones that are touted as being "the best ones".

Thats the sales pitch they gave when the movie first came out.
I work for a medical device/drug company and I can tell you the reason medical care is so expensive. It's because Americans demand the best care regardless of cost. I'm in the eye biz so lets say your wife is going blind and you have symptoms of the same problem. You will give your jeep, home and life savings to save you sight. You don't want a maybe you want the best care on the planet. So you go to a good doctor and you want him to have the best staff and best equipment so he calls us. We send in a guy who makes 250K per year plus to sell and train the staff. You do want the best trainer don't you? well he ain't cheap. The sales guy has a boss and a enginerring team and a law firm to get it thru FDA. They call me to set it up so I fly in stay in a nice hotel eat a fine meal and drive a mid-sized rent a car to install and calibrate the instrument. Do you want me or the sales guy unhappy? do you want us to be under nurished. Do you want us to have financial problems at home? How about the Doctor and his team? You want and need shinny happy people who are on their game and that cost a lot of money. So we sell a machine that is way less complicated than a VCR but it cost $65,000. I charge 260 an hour travel (remember the air ,rental, car, and hotel). Then I charge $285 an hour while on site. I get a free car and free gas and free home and cell phone,I eat like a king and make a fine salery. You get what you pay for when you get the high medical bill because a lot a folks jump further ,higher and faster than a human should be expected to make sure your wife gets the best care on the planet. Do you want less?
Then dig deep bro because the best people have your back when it comes to medical care and we will go elseware when the $$$ dries up.

You have never been sick in another country have u? Try going to Canada and getting emergency care as an American. I waited almost 16 hours before I was seen. Then I got a prescription for some Ibruprofrin, that I could not fill in Canada.
Just think about how screwed up our health care would be if the American Government ruled it. Look at how bad getting a license plate is or a new ID.
Word of advise; If you think we have it bad here go to the UK and get sick try to see a doctor there. Bet you would be referred to the US consolet and then referred to an US military base if you really wanted anything done.

Speaking of that: I hope that everyone who travels abroad takes address and phone info with them of US Embassy's and Consulate offices wherever they go through (that includes airports with only plane changes). Believe me: it's a good practice!

Congratulations Mr. Strickland, you've just earned yourself this!!

Seriously, which neighbors are you referring to?
Please provide some factual data to back up your claims......not the second movie in the Michael Moore Socialist propoganda library. I can hardly wait for his next film, which will likely prove that the Holocaust is merely an urban legend, Mexico, China and Iran are our allies and our government officials are acting in the best interest of We the People.

Actually i live on the canadian border and it's kinda interesting how many old folks take the ferry over to victoria just for the flu shots. i guess i'm just a stupid liberal that doesn't understand why someone that's worked their entire life can't even get a flu shot in their own country. wanna talk about military hospitals? how many of you have known anyone that has to deal with the VA?
i consider myself one of the lucky ones to have full tricare medical. i guess serving in our military for the past 7 years means nothing to some of you that "really" knows whats going on. I'd like to hear from some of our neighbors from up north. I agree that democrates are not the all knowing crowd, nor do i agree that republicans have a good system either. i just think it's a shame that in our country medical care is a priviledge. the basis of our country is that all people are created equal. regardless of financial status. have a nice day.

I do. Me. I am a service-connected disability type... so I deal with the VA. Not sure what your point it.
I lived closer to the Canadian border than you do... and I remember the year that flu shots were in short supply, and people took the ferry to Victoria to get their shots. So what? Flu shots are mostly a farce anyhow. So what if people went up there to get a shot.... people from up there are still coming down here for quite a bit of elective and progressive medical care. Partly due to the looooong wait times, partly due to some medical processes not being available.
I also lived in Germany as a civilian for some years. Socialized medicine there. While I liked being able to go to the doctor whenever I fely I needed it, the wait times can be quite silly for anything more than a routine aspirin presciption.

Government provided or subsidized healthcare means more taxes. I think I pay quite enough in taxes already, seriously. K, thx.

I delt with the VA yesterday. They use the best equipment and have great people. The problem for them is old guys that have guaranteed health care for life because of service to their country. I guess they earned it but why should the VA pay for sombodys hammer toes? I see guys in there on first name basis with all the staff. They are in for common everday medical procedures that in no way was caused by military service.

As far as your coment goes on medical care being a priviledge why shoudn't it be? Driving is a privalage so should the goverment buy me the same care as a looser? Maybe we need a two tiered health care system. A vet like clinic for those that choose to squander their lives and money and a great heathcare system for those that chose to study, earn a decient living, lead a healthy lifstyle and save for eventual heath care needs. All is not equall in the land of the free. You reap what you sow. No free ride.Wake up.

What are you talking about? You can get flu shots all over the place. They are usually offered at places like schools and, oh yeah, doctor's offices.

What I think is funny is how someone will complain about paying 5-25 bucks for a flu shot.

Like they think it's their God given right to recieve health care.

What a stupid notion. I just can't figure out why this country is getting such an attitue of entitlement. You don't have the right to anything about Health care. It was never written in the constitution.

Get off your lazy ass and work for it, like the rest of us do.

BTW...I am a HUGE lover of the HSA plans being offered now. When people actually have to see how much it costs instead of just writing out a co-pay, maybe they will start complaining about what it costs and the market will drive the prices down. Honestly I think this is one of the big reasons health care costs are so out of reach. People don't care what it costs because they just see a 20 dollar co-pay.

To add more to that.

I don't think Bush has a set anymore. Not really sure how big they were when he entered the White House, but they have shrunk to an almost non-existant size. That is the probably with all political officials on the right. That's why someone with the gonads of say Nugent (not saying him) to say things how they are. All I know is this country has lived through it's finest days and it's a shame. I'm only 24 and have a long life ahead of me. I often wonder if placing money in the stock market for MY long-term future is the smartest thing to do. That's why I want to start buying up land asap. The stock market can go to hell if the rest of the country does and then your $ is worthless. Land will ALWAYS be worth something and as population grows, so will land value. It's a very simple logic behind that too...supply and demand. Kind of like what petroleum is seeing right now.
