Monitor engine/other functions w/continuous OBDII

I was curious as to how many people use an OBDII scan tool of some sort and constantly run it so you can see what the engine and stuff is doing?

I read that you can watch your MPG, how much fuel you have left, engine temps, how it's running and so forth.

My biggest question is, if you're able to see your MPG, what needs to be done in order to get correct MPG if you're running bigger tires since the speedo is slightly off... do you change the speedo gear so it's correct and that helps read the MPG?

Curious to see how anyone uses something like a OBDII scan tool w/laptop/cellphone etc to monitor engine going ons and other aspects of their vehicle and the benefits of doing it.

Read that... Now what about watching mpg when bigger tires and such is added? Will the scanner compensate or does something have to be reworked...

I know my scangauge has this option. It is not automatic, but very simple to do. It allows you to enter a percentage based on what the stock size and gearing is compared to what you have. For example, if your speedo says you are going 50, but you know you are going 55mph, you would enter 110%. Then the scangauge recalculates all the other info using that number as true velocity.

No idea on the other options in that thread.
