MJ camper shell - any options?

Interested in a shell for my MJ, long-bed. Called a few places that sell these things around here (Kansas City), and over half had to ask me what a Comanche was! Needless to say, my local search revealed nothing......

Is there a company still *or ever* making these for the MJ? Or, is there a similar shell that they have applications for i.e. Dakota, Toyota, Tonka, that will fit?

I made a shell one time in the past for a Ranger, don't really want to do THAT again.......

The companies who used to make them for the MJ no longer offer them, because there isn't enough market to make it worthwhile.

A long time ago we had a guy on the forums whose screen name was ComancheGuy, or MJguy (no, not XJguy). He had a Comanche (duh), but more important for you, at one time his father was a cap dealer. He told me that older S-10 caps will fit MJs. I bought a used S-10 utility cap (ugly, but functional -- the white aluminum type, not the molded fiberglass ones) for my shortbed and it fits perfectly. Look for an S-10 cap for around early to mid-90s.

Thanks for the reply - that probably works for the short bed, although I question the height. The long bed seems to be an odd duck when it comes to length. Too long for a traditional 7', not long enough for an 8'. Guess I can go to a junkyard and start measuring beds off of other trucks to see if there is something close......anyone know of something about 56" wide by 88" long, as measured inside the bedrails?

Check OLDER S-10s. My understanding from Matthew was that the long beds were about the same length between the MJ and the older S-10s also. My MJs are mostly shortbeds so I never had a reason to confirm.

Hey Eagle.
The MJ you sold Pahighlander, that is now in my possession, had a cap on it at one time. As to the cap issue, longbed S-10s of the "boxy" body are the same length. I put one on mine for a while, then decided that it was too much of a pain to keep it there.
Also, if you get a chance Eagle, pm me with a history of the blue MJ that you sold last year. Just curoius, she's still alive and kicking in PA. Been some changes to her though.
