Mira's '93 XJ 2-dr. build (11-year-old's first Jeep)

Your girls have got a great dad, and it seems youve got great kids!
Keep it safe, i saw a picture of mira grinding with a baggy sweatshirt on....

Yeah and no wrenching with rings on. Having her deglove a finger won't help develop her love of jeeps.

Any updates......I know school is back in but we all know you have snuck out to the garage and worked on it.......... You can not fool us.......lol

Sadly, there are no major updates. I did get both axles pulled. I need to pick up some rear leaf centering pins/bolts before installing the D44 rear, and still need to paint the front.

I moved about 6 weeks ago, and moving blows (and also takes a BUNCH of time). ;) And as you mentioned, school starting (along with related activities for both of my daughters) sure tightens down the schedule.

I'm looking forward to getting back into it.

Moving does truly suck... hope you at least goy a decent workspace in the bargain. I lost mine...:bawl:

Re: Mira's (NOW 1997) XJ 2-dr. build (11-year-old's first Jeep)

Mira's project is back underway (WOOT!), but we should informally rename it "Project Identity Crisis" (LOL) because...

This 100% rust-free, 1997 XJ 2-door from Texas found its way into my driveway this past weekend. It's currently 2WD, but we have all the stuff to convert it to 4WD (a 94K-mile driveline, with 53K-mile Dana 30/Dana 44 axles).

I have my daughters for the long holiday weekend this year, so we have a "hit list" of things to start working on, including:
  • Install an iPod-ready stereo
  • Install Gentex Temp/Compass rearview mirror'
  • Start installing cleaner interior bits (this one is kind of dirty, and the headliner is sagging).
Shortly (after I get a parts XJ out of the garage), we'll start thinking more seriously about installing 2" TeraFlex BB spacers in front, and H.D. Offroad Engineering shackle relocation in the rear (if time allows). We also have a set of 2011 JK Rubicon shocks all-around. The rear Dana 44 install won't be far behind.

Ok so now you have accumulated so many Jeeps I have lost track as to which ones are you using and which ones are donors lol

What happened to that gorgeous red 98 classic that had the bad motor?

How many jeeps will Mira have owned before she can legally drive one?

Today's progress (Thanksgiving 2012)...

Successful 10-minute installation of a Pioneer iPod-ready stereo in Mira's XJ. It was pulled from another Cherokee ("freebie" from a parts Jeep), and already had the adapter harness wired up. Test-run with the Foo Fighters. Rock on!

Mira driving the new XJ out back. The kid's a good driver!

We also removed the stock front bumper, and will finish up the grinding work on the JCR DIY front bumper shortly.

We're also parting out a 2000 XJ that had all of the OEM skid plates (front/engine/transfer case/gas tank), as well as an ARB front bumper. Mira will get the skid plates, with the exception of the t-case skid plate (she already has a JCR Offroad one), and her little sister Maeve will get the ARB front bumper for her '99 XJ 2-door.

Tomorrow, I think we'll attack the Gentex temp/compass/auto-dim rearview mirrow.

Check the rear axle of the XJ that the skid plates came from. A limited slip rear axle was usually packaged with the skid plates! I know you have that Dana 44 for the build but you could advertise and get a few extra bucks from selling that 8.25.

Thanks for the heads-up, Ben. I already sold the rear axle, though. The 8.25 that's currently in this one will be pulled & replace the Dana 35 in her little sister's XJ.

Is it an auto tranny? Do you know if it would be a direct bolt in for a 2001? I think I read something about years not playing nice together die to the computer or something..? If it would work, how much would you want for the tranny/t-case? Mine will need them since its still only 2wd. :(
