Minute Man

yeah, because those poor, half-starved, dehydrated people who risked it all to get here are also some of the most extremely dangerous people on the face of the earth. god forbid that a person who just wants a better life for themselves and their families are dangerous. The real danger are potential terrorists. is a guy who is going to be stuck working for less than minimum wage in some field working 14 hour days a terrorist? no. is he a danger to anyone? no. while i'm not saying that they are all angels, i feel that this is a misguided attempt to stop poor people who deserve a better life. Heres a news flash for all of you. they aren't going to stop just because you caught them once. Not to divert attention from the southern border, but its probably easier to cross the canadian border. hell, all you have to do is get in a boat and cross one of the Lakes! If you were a terrorist with a nice bankroll, which option would YOU take? the largest unprotected border in the world with our neighbors to the north? or the southern border where all those "dangerous" real threats to america pass through? its a no brainer.

Ever lived in a place with a large population of illeagals? They recieve government handouts for some reason, they drive on the roads they don't pay for with out drivers liscences or insurance, gangs and crime are also associated with them. I am not by any means a racist but it's irritating to me that people say they are just looking for a better life. Because if they are that eager for change why don't they focus on improving there country, they could run for office, protest against corruption, clean up there neighborhoods, try to better there lives from within there country. The U.S. is already keeping Mexico afloat financialy we don't need to support imigrants who refused to go through the proper channels to be in our country.

like i said, not all of them are angels. gangs are a problem here as there are in cali and other places. but the VAST majority of illegal immigrants are hard working, god fearing conservative people. they do alot of the work that the "natives" would never do anymore. the're behind the scenes cleaning up the trash, cooking and washing dishes, and trying to raise their children at the same time while sending whatever little money they have left to their extended family back home.

I normally stay away from political discussions (except to read and be amused by them), but "one must cheat once in a while to make one's diet effective". As such, here goes my "indulgence":

That does not in any way excuse them from the responsibility (yes, I know that's a forbidden word in today's "politically correct" climate, but that's a rant for another day) of going through the proper legal channels to enter this country.

Like it or not, immigration laws are just that - LAWS. Violate them, and expect to be tossed out on your kiester(sp?). Doesn't matter if you're a rich terrorist or a poor farmer looking to make a living. The law is the law.

Oh, one other thing before I come to my senses: Enough of this "Government forms in 15 languages" malarkey - You want to do business in this country, or interact with the government or "the natives", you learn to speak English. Period. End of Sentence. Speak as many languages as you want, but make bloody sure that English is one of them. I am under no obligation to learn Spanish, French, Chinese, Klingon, Ferengi, or "Albino Pategonian Midget-ese" in order to interact with you - you're in what was founded as an English-speaking country, the obligation to learn MY language is on you.

And now, back to my "no politics" diet.

End of Line.

Rob

yeah, i've lived in a large metropolitan area with a large illegal population. i was born in washington d.c. and live in the suburbs today. Oh did i mention that my parents were BOTH illegal before i was born? so i think i have some knowledge as to the topic. Both my parents came here from El Salvador to try to live a better life and to better provide for their respective families back home. And, its not as easy to change a country as some ignorant people on here think! sure, lets all go out and protest and change the government so that we don't have to go to the U.S.A where nobody wants us. not that easy. They both left at the start of a civil war to escape the horrors of death squads and random executions perpetrated on both sides of the conflict. but i'm sure you don't even give a rats ass about any of that so i'm not gonna waste anymore of my time trying to explain it to you. You obviously don't know what its like to not have your basic freedoms that we, including myself take for granted sometimes. i'm actually going back there for the first time in 13 years next week, i'll post pictures of the living hell that a vast majority of these illegals left behind.

p.s. and i do agree that people should learn english when they come here

You have no clue what you are talking about living up there. Try speading some time down here and see if you have the same views of those "poor" people. You get real tired of seeing those "poor" people drive up to the local ER room in there Caddy Escalade with Mex plates and go in get treatment and leave never pay a dime never get asked to pay a dime then swing by the DES office pic up there food stamps and cash assistance and laugh at us Dumb Americans working our butts off to pay for all the help for those "poor people"

I for one am glad it is getting attention

I have no problem with people heading over to the grand USA bring it on the right way!

As to your parents escaping to this country I’m sorry they had to endure that but at my expense so you can have a better life I don’t think that is right. You should have not been handed you citizenship paper for you being born here. Break the law you are a criminal end of it, plain and simple. I really feel for all these counties that are under terrible rule and like the USA did, they should do something about it. I do believe we had a few people killed in that little spat call the revolutionary war. The US is the land of opertunitiy but not at MY expense it isn’t I am tired of bearing the burden of every other poor sole that has it bad. As to English being spoken. try getting help in English at Walmart here in Tucson… I have to learn Spanish!

lets get Gil of the MWC in on this one...

oh - and Rob gets plus points from me

The major ethnic group moving into the Saint Louis City area nowadays is not Mexican but Bosnian. My neighborhood has been flooded. Each family has tons of cars with stickers of dragons and flames on them. They race up and down the street to all hours of the morning. Gang activity is on the rise. I recently saw my neighbor butcher a goat in his backyard as I clutched my own dog. All the guts went right in the dumpster...there's gotta be a law on that. The same dude burns his trash. The other funny thing is that 3 of my neighbors have roosters. It's like I got the benefits of city living with the feel of the country. Nothin' like gettin' up at the crack of dawn by a rooster. I feel like I'm shootin' a Folgers commercial each morning. I recently got an invitation to attend classes at the YMCA on Bosnian Cultural Education. Shouldn't that be the other way around? Oh well...we're moving in a few months so for now I just gotta chuckle each day when one of my neighbors yells over, "How doing!!".

I forgot to mention...that goat got roasted on a home made rotisserie (sp?) that WAS a 55 gallon drum. Four guys worked in shifts to hand turn that sucker until it was golden brown. Afterwards, they leaned it against a fence and wore a knife out.

I am not saying that the conditions in many of the latin american countries will be easy to change but change is ultimately in the hands of the people who live there. People forget that americans fought a bloody revolution to gain our independance and form our "land of opportunity," It wasn't easy but it happened over time. We have freedoms here because we fought for them in the revoulutionary war, the war of 1812, and really in WWII.

i agree with you completely. I'm all about remembering our history and how we came to be such a great country. I should have majored in history, but alas, no money in that. But on the flip side, revolutions and civil wars in third world countries aren't played by the same rules of engagement as the american revolution was here. If britain had decided to use the same tactics of murder and intimidation as some of these governments do now, i believe the war would have been far different. Watch "Salvador" by Oliver Stone starring James Woods, its shows a part of what i'm talking about. at the same time, i'm not saying that everyone should run to the USA and not do anything to change their homeland. Just saying that its a very very brutal process sometimes.

My son was really sick one night and I had to take him to the hospital. I have full ins. for him (costs a fortune) and we had to wait as others went first and all of them did not have insurance. A one year old with a 104 temp is a reason for concern. A free check-up shouldn't be a concern for one without ins. But hey, I live in CA and have to pay for all of the "out of towners" too I guess.

The sad true is we have extended so much to so many that we have destroyed our way of life and now it's is so broken nobdy wants to touch it. It is kinda like that guy that is nice to people and once everyone finds out he gets taken for a ride by every con artist out there..well we are the nice guy and well you know the rest.... It was bound to happen and we have nobody but ourselves to blame for letting it get this bad.

That's interesting and amusing. Where in the city do you live, and where are you moving to?

It is not funny, but when the dog was "clutched" in fear as the neighbors slaughtered the animals, I couldn't stop laughing from the visual image. I pictured a poodle with a pink bow on its head shaking in fear as some big guy is "clutching" it to his boosum.
