Minimum cage for an XJ?

What holds the A pillar up? Is the front an exo?
Have any more pics?

The front is an exo. It ties into the main hoops through the roof, and down into the 2x6 rockers.

And it has been well tested. Held up perfectly with zero deflection. Only the tail light didn't make it.

I did it on 5 spot grid paper so you could scale it if you want.

You're welcome. :D

I did this on MS paint so I could get it online. :)

Would something like this work?

Is it necessary to have both bedsides floppy, or will just one do?

Whenever I either learn how to weld and bend tube or have enough money to pay someone else to do it for me, this is similar to what I want. Exo around the passenger compartment cuz I don't want tube around my head, and tuck into the fenders maybe up front to tie in shock hoops for eventual coilovers. Also into front and rear bumpers and rocker panels (will be 2x4 or 2x6 square tubed set into the rockers)

opie, when you build a cage in your own ride, you'll then be allowed to
comment, until then, stop the sack riding///

Opie has more web wheeling experience than anyone I know and has the virtual knowledge needed to critique any cage out there. :wierd:

I can't see the post you quoted, but Opie built this one last weekend.

here's a few shots of how I did mine , and only took 2 weeks to complete . And that was only working on it a couple of hours a day after work.

of course these weren't finished pics , we moved the fuel tank to inside cut out the floor behind the rear seat and added a shock tower. But notice how tight all the tube is to the pillars.

Maybe this is a stupid question, but why do your C-pillar tubes bend around the fender and mount to the floor? Why not weld them to a plate welded to the fenderwell?

Well first , the rest of the cage goes thru the floor to the re-inforced unibody and attaches to the rock sliders . The shocks also mount across that paricular pillar. Which aren't shown in that pic. And the stock fuel tank mounts up in between them also. I've still got some work to do , but that was the minimum cage I put in.

hey mudfreakin73 im also in the spring area. are you in any of the local clubs? id love to get a look at that cage up close. im currently gathering ideas for how i want to do mine.

As this is a "Minimum cage" thread, I'm curious as to why you felt this monstrosity was the most efficient way to add tube to the back end of the Jeep, and, uh, what's the point?
