mini spool in a ford 8.8

So that elimnates the c-clips so your axles doesn't fall out ? Man that would be the perfect axle, an 8.8 with mini spool and no c-clips. To bad I just did the 44 upgrade.

fixed:kissyou:

Because a STOCK 8.8 is stronger than a STOCK D-44.

so would a lunchbox like an aussie require c-clip eliminators also??
no.
just replace the spider gears, and put the axle shafts in like normal.

marginally, yes. it has a .3" larger ring gear, slightly larger pinion, etc...but its also narrower, c-clip and not bolt on... i wouldnt run bigger than 35s on either axle, i have a built 44 and im not going bigger than 35s.

and once you add a c-clip eliminator its not a stock axle anymore....so i would take the stock 44 over the stock 8.8 but thats just me.

wouldn't run larger then stock on either..lol. i run 35s on my chry 8.25, and another buddy of mine runs locked 35s on the same rear end. im planning on going to locked 37s when i have a waggy front d44, it being narrower can easily be fixed with some 1 inch wheel spacers if you really want to, and theyre easier to get a hold of.

and yes i agree if you own a cherokee of course a d44 is going to be better stock to stock....IT BOLTS UP. move some perches around on the ford 8.8 and it isn't "stock" either is it

wondering why you say this?

the dana 44 is a non c-clip axle, just put a mini spool in yours...

I've already got a Detroit in it. If I had to do it all over again I'd go the 8.8 mainly do to the fact disk conversions are a lot easier and if you spooled it and had the c-clip eliminator then basically it would be a better set up for probably about what I spent to build my 44 to where I have it right now.

not knockin your style, just wondering why you asked. the disc brakes would definitely be nice.

i have a XJ44 with a detroit as well, and 33 spline chromo-shafts, and im also in the market for disc brakes.

this is probly what i will end up with, cheap and easy

Mini spools do not require c-clip eliminators. They fit right in place of the spider gears like a lunch box. I ran one in my 8.8 until I got sick of the spool effect and put a detroit in later. I wish I had just shelled out the cash and done it right the first time. If you havn't ran a spool before I suggest you drive one first. It isn't that bad, but apparently it got bad enough for me to switch it out. Plus I was wearing out my 35" MTRs too fast.....
