Miller Jeep Trail

what were the dates again?

I might be convinced to come out, maybe. I still dont have four wheel drive, but you dont really need it for MJT. ;)

Sept 2nd. You gotta come out man. I've gone out drinking with you several times and still haven't seen you out wheelin. If this trip does happen it'll probably be my last wheelin trip in SoCal for a while. I got the job I wanted in Phoenix and I think I'm gonna take it.

Pfft, you're coming out for truckhaven in october and goatfest in november. You just don't know it yet.

Sept 2 I think I'm gonna be in NYC working ;(

Let me assure you, you will need 4xdrive. It's loose and dusty in a few spots.
It wouldn't be Treading Lightly to tear some big ruts in parts of it, trying to make it with 2xdrive.
That being said, if I can get my rig to hold coolant (head gasket and/or head) I'm up for it!
I'll check with the local Ranger District as the current fire has much of the Los Padres closed down for lack of resorces.

I've done it with the rear detroit a few times without four wheel drive. The dust isnt a problem, but as soon as my front end hits rocks the transfercase chain just starts popping.

Man, that sucks.
When the chain's loose enough to jump the sprockets, it's like starting to saw through the case!
I think I have a good used chain in my spare parts somewhere.
It's yours if I can find it.

I've got a new case, new 1.375" chain and sprockets, 6 rollar planetary, late model shift fork sitting in the parts bin. Waiting on purchase of a new bearing set, another HD SYE, and maybe a 2-low, then rebuilding. I'll take the good parts out of the spare case and rebuild the current as a spare box to go in the basement.

Well Cal, sounds like you got the killer TransX case in the works.
Post up where you find a good deal on a bearing set.
I haven't spent much time researching it, and only have a quote from JB Conversions for the rebuild kit so far for one of my cases.

Look it up. Part of the fun is discovering this stuff for yourself. It's in the Los Padres Nation forest, not far from the MJT. Search here, and the LPNF site.

MJT is pretty desolate / post fire right now. Although, totally doable in a stock Cherokee.

In 2wd. :D

That's too bad, but congrats on the job! :)
