Those of you that know me ... know I do a trip to the mountain area south of Monterrey. It's usually a trip with some off road guys and gals from Monterrey. We bring supplies to the remote local villages and get some off road challenges along the route. When we finish we play around and usually end up in Real del Catorce.

I want to make the trip again this year with a few(er) friends from there again.

just checking to see if anyone may be interested???

Dates in December and length of trip would become a mutual decision.

I realize the "Travel for Americans" situation but trust my southern friends that will be with us.

Thanks for the disclaimer but um..... I dunno if I'd feel comfortable.

There is nothing wrong with going to Mexico. TV makes it seem worse than it really is.

F that noise. I don't buy into everything that the media sells. But I know I'm not going into Mexico, especially border area, anytime soon. I trust in my ability to reach for my hip and pull my .40 if I need to. Mexico doesn't believe in that right. Can't even bring it with. With everything going on over there, that's a big deal breaker for me.

You don't hear the part on who those "others" are. Maby because they're directly involved? Hmm. People make it seem as if they're everywhere hiding in the bushes just waiting to jump out at you with RPG's.

Well, I'd love to go, however, Military members aren't allowed anywhere in the first 50 miles of Mexico. Not even to drive through. I'd have to fly the cherokee to Mexico City. Not happening... Hell, I couldn't even float it around there. The mexican coast is off limits too!

Oh and which Monterrey? There's almost a dozen of em in Meh-he-co!

Wow I had not heard that about Military members... I hope that does not apply to retired Military ;)

I guess I understand the reasoning... it's very interesting aspect to think about... if I want to go now :(

How come military members aren't allowed down there? 0_o?!

Well, Sparty despite your belief to the contrary that the border area is safe,
The DoD doesn't feel it is safe for it's members to go down there. If you feel its okay, talk to anybody that lives in El Paso. You're opinion may change. My wife and in-laws are all from the other side of the border (Piedras Negras). My father-in-law will still go down there, but the rest of the family won't even go to Eagle Pass.

SENT ON BEHALF OF GENERAL STEPHEN R. LORENZ, AETC/CC:

1. Subsequent to the revised AETC/CC Mexico Travel Restriction Policy issued on 10 May 10, NORTHCOM has placed additional Mexican states off-limits to coincide with U.S. State Department Travel Advisories. In addition, AFNORTH now requires notification prior to and upon return from travel to restricted areas. The 10 May 10 policy is rescinded and the AETC Mexico Travel Restriction Policy is revised as follows:

2. Due to ongoing violence along the US-Mexico border and the recent killing of two American citizens in Ciudad Juarez, the AETC Mexico Travel Policy is revised as follows: all non-official travel (leave and pass) to or through any portion of Mexico located within 50 statute miles of the U.S. Mexico border is prohibited until further notice to include the states of Coahuila, Chihuahua, Durango, Michoacan, Nuevo Leon, Sinaloa, Tamaulipas and including the cities of Acuna, Agua Prieta, Cuidad Juarez, Las Palomas, Monterrey, Matamoras, Naco, Nuevo Laredo, Piedras Negras, Reynosa, Sasabe, Sonoyta and Tijuana. Official DoD travel to these areas is limited to mission essential travel only.

Unfortunately, it looks like it's a sad reality. Just do a google search on Monterrey and violence and see the number of recent articles from varying news agencies (US, UK, Canada, etc).

Here's part of one, dated 9/20/10 (http://nationalinterest.org/blog/the-skeptics/monterrey-the-latest-casualty-mexicos-drug-war-4106):
"Caterpillar, a major employer in Mexico, instructed its executives with children to leave Monterrey in September, following the move by the State Department regarding diplomatic personnel...."
"Mexican business leaders are following suit. An executive at leading cement producer Cemex SAB, headquartered in Monterrey, stated that at least 20 families from his circle of friends and acquaintances had left. “It’s a rush for the exits,” he said."

But Sparty said it was safe and the television box was making it all up.

I think Sparty is trying to contribute to a massive cover up being perpetrated by the Mexican Government! :)

Well, hey if Sparty can be a theorist, so can I! That and Uncle Sam isn't the only one out there trying to cover chit up!
