Meet and Greet in SC....

well it was a good MEET, just an expensive day trip.
i know better than to go to a GUN show. oh well, TOYS TOYS !!!!!
it was really greeat to be ABLE TO TALK xj AND trail STUFF, NOT MANY FACE TO FACE times around here.
i still Invite ALL to the Gulches ,, there is more than just MUD holes. I PROMISE !

It was great to meet all that attended. We do need to start doing this more often. Great to sit and talk with good people with a common interest. Looking foreward to the next one!

I wish we could have made it, but money is so tight right now it's not even funny. I doubt that I'll have the money for doing any wheeling this year :(
That sucks! Especially since Harlan is supose to be so much better then Tellico.

True, but when I figured up gas for the trip, it was going to be roughly $300 for my truck alone, and I was being lienient on my estimated fuel mileage of 8-9 MPG. It would most likey be in the 6-7 MPG range when you throw in mountain roads to pull the trailer up. Then there's food, gas for the XJ, campsite & supplies, etc. :(

With the recent spikes in fuel prices, I'll be doing good to get out once, MAYBE twice this year, but it won't be anywhere as far away as Harlan for me.

While we're on that subject, it looked to me like Harlan had the least amount of votes in the poll. What happened?

The poll was more of a what do you guys think kinda thing. We talked about it and figured that Callantee was not the place for the Crawl. I would definately agree with that. Uwharrie is definately not a Crawl location. We had to decied either do it at Tellico again or try a new location. We actually have discussed doing an event at Harlan in the past couple of years. Since 3 of the major trails are closed and people are saying Tellico is done if they stay that way we decided to try Harlan this year. While it will definately be more expensive and I like you will not do lots of trips this year either. I'm just glad URE is close and I can do it in a day and a tank of gass up and back. That is usually $75 - $100 in gas. I am actually trying to see how street worthy the xj is. 10 mpg in the xj is better then 8mpg in the truck with the xj in tow!

Yeah, until something breaks in the woods :D

I know what you mean. Beasley's a good day trip for me, and the last time I was there it was gnarly. They haven't done any trail maintenance on it in over 4-5 years (WAAaayyy back when I had my first XJ). If I do get out, that's most likely where I'll go, although I may hit Tellico once, but that depends on if I can get anyone to go and wheel with me.

I'll just unlock the fronts or just run the 9" if that is what breaks. I dont see the 203 or the 205 breaking. Maybe a tranny or engine might get some damage, but then I just make a call and have someone bring the trailer and truck up. Which would suck but hey you got to try to scrimp and save every where you can. Depending on how stuff goes this year i would like to hit up Tellico at least one time. Got to sell some stuff for that gas bill though.

Not sure right now I'm trying to get the jeep back on the road/trail. Maybe may or june? I want ot hit up URE and see what kinda changes have been made. I heard there are new parking lots and other things and a bath house at one of the other campgrounds. I know I want get to URE this weekend but maybe a day trip before the end of the month to check things out. Then we can plan a meet up there for a weekend of camping and wheeling .... lol!

i am not sure about a day trip this month,,, between Base ball and work, it may be after school is out. maybe June or after for Camping.
i will probably pull the pop up with th XJ.
