I will be going to mammoth in about a month. Last year i did a lot of 4x4 around Antelope valley spring. I heard that there was also a trail that goes around Crowley lake. But is there any better trails around Antelope valley? Crowley lake is too low in elevation thus not much snow. I will be staying in the village and dont want to drive more then 10 min to get to a trail. So if there is anything around the village or near antelope valley springs please let me know. thanks

There is a trail going up the mountain behind Convict Lake. However I doubt it is accessible with all the snow that mountain gets. It sure is nice in the summer though. You can see the entire town, airport and June Lake.

I highly recommend the Laurel creek drive up to the lakes. Also, you can hike up the saddle between Bloody Mtn and Mt Laurel where's there's a very interesting volcanic bowl. If you've got the legs, get a view of the lakes above Convict as well. I only go in the summers, so be careful about snow - the hillsides don't have many trees that high up.
