LubeGard Red in an AW-4.....?

I recently did a filter/fluid change in my 96 AW-4, and am considering adding a bottle of LubeGard in the Red bottle to it. A search turned up absolutely nothing, so apparently there's no history of this additive being used in XJs. Any opinions?

Thanks,

What does this stuff claim to do?

My '92 has 215,000 miles on it and it's never needed anything but regular fluid/filter changes. It still shifts like new (or so darn close to it that I can't tell the difference).

If you have no complaints presently with how it's working, I'd say leave well enough alone.

Thanks for the replies, guys. LubeGard is one of the better additives out there, and is designed to replace the whale oil that used to be in ATF (before it was legislated out of existance). Back in the day, nobody changed ATF, and the transmissions lasted 200K miles or more. The whale oil was supposedly the reason.

I'm using it in an Explorer, but hesitate to put it in the XJ. Mainly because of posts I've read about AW-4s not likeing synthetic ATF. But then I've read posts saying syn is OK...? I may try the LubeGard anyway and see what happens......

Well I am running a synthetic ATF and the lube -guard additive.Close to 1 year now, have not seen any difference in the tranny.222 K on a 96.

Thanks Wayne, that helps me decide. I also have a 96, with only 60K miles on it, and plan to keep this puppy for a long time. I'm dropping a bottle of the LubeGard Red in it this weekend.
