LS2 XJ

SO........ its gonna be a DD? DAMN!!!!!!!!! Can't wait to see it in action at the Crawl!

It definately needs some type of security system.

It's a pretty wicked machine! There's just way too much bad ass stuff going on with that jeep. Sounds wicked, looks wicked, built to be reliable and to be beat on.
No spy shots from me though, that's up to Tyler or Brent. As much as I was tempted I didn't even take a cell phone pic.

Got the CB installed and the ARBs functioning correctly. Also got the lights all working, but still gotta go back and re do the fog lights (wiring was too short but we hooked it up anyway just to test them) and also install the looming on the new wiring. The driveshaft did come in today, so now it's actually 4WD again. We tried it out a little and its really impressive, it rides great off road, takes the bumps extremely well, and its also very stable. Tomorrow first thing it's going to get the AC lines made and the system charged so it will blow cold air on us! Then when I get home, we have to get the solenoid box mounted for the winch, the radiator overflow mounted, and also clean up that wiring, then it should be good.

Oh... and after administering a 15 minute ass chewing to Ken Brown at Novak, the gauges will be here tomorrow. Its probably the last time I will ever deal with them.

Impressive work.

Hopefully the rig actually gets used. The original pics you posted of the rig make it look like it's never seen dirt. Would be a real waste if it was built just to look pretty - you get paid either way though, right!!!

Oh, don't you worry... its already been put through some paces (gotta test it out, right?) and its gonna be wheeled. Don't you worry!

Uh yeah........that thing is super clean. Is it still sitting on AT's or are those just for the street?

Those are the old tires and lift. The underside is all new. New suspension, axles, tires and wheels. I forget what kind of tires but they are shown in an earlier pic mounted on the new beadlocks.

Well, I said I wouldn't post pictures, but I never mentioned that I wouldn't tell all of the specs... so here they are.

Engine and drivetrain:

06 Chevy LS2 mated to a 4L65E Transmission, both with only 19,000 miles.
NP231J Transfer case. Stock till it blows, then swapping in a 241OR.
Rear axle: Ford Exploder with Super 88 kit, ARB locker, Superior gears, disc brakes, Solid diff cover.
Front Axle: Ford High pinion Dana 44, cut and narrowed to Waggy width, RCV axleshafts and drive slugs (also going to have Warn 30 spline Hubs for the street), ARB Locker, Genuine G2 gears, Reid Racing Knuckles, Full High Steer, Solid Diff Cover. Also has new spindles, calipers, caliper brackets, pads, etc.
Driveshafts are both from Tom Woods.

Suspension:
Rock Krawler 3 link front and 4 link rear, modified for more clearance. Custom RSOR track bar and mounts, and RSOR high steer. ORI struts front and rear, 12" travel rear, 16" travel front. RSOR Engine cage.

Wheels and tires:
Black Rock "D" series wheels in a 17" flavor. RSOR Custom Competition Style beadlocks. 37-12.50-R17 Goodyear MTRs; 1st gen, not Kevlars.

Other Doodads:
Fully custom RSOR Hybrid cage, RSOR bumpers, Round Eyes Rock lights, Warn and Hella Driving lights, Warn M8000 winch with under hood solenoid pack with external winch control hook up as well as in cab controls. Cobra CB Radio. It also has Ice Cold A/C!!!

So there you have it. Come check it out this weekend at the Crawl!!!

Well, I just got back home from the crawl. Had a decent time but would have been 100% better if I would have had something of my own to wheel. The LS2 XJ did wonderful on the trip. Only issues was that the A/C compressor clutch rubbed a hole in the intake tube and caused a system too lean code. Not a huge deal, but I will have to get that patched up pretty quickly. Also, it appears that the T-case didn't like the power, the front out put is a little loose, but it's not leaking, so I think it just needs a rebuild. Sounds like a good time to upgrade to a 6 gear planetary and wide chain. Other than that, no issues at all. It ran great, and drove great, and the ORIs rode wonderfully. My only other complaint is the tire rubbage in the rear, but that's to be expected with 37's I guess.

I was working on it it literally until the last minute. Tim (Thehardstruggler) showed up to pick me up just 10 minutes after the last screw was tightened. I was able to get everything done, except for hooking up the reverse lights, which I really haven't looked into yet. Tuesday I got the A/C lines made and had the system charged. After replacing the defective High Pressure switch, and bypassing the Jeep computer, it worked great. From what I gathered, the Jeep computer will only energize the Compressor if the engine is running, so I basically just spliced into the "output" wire from the low pressure switch, and hooked that up to the coil control wire on the compressor relay. Worked like a champ. Then on Wednesday, I was able to finish up a few little things, and install the gauges. That actually went flawlessly... everything worked just like it should, including the Tach and the CEL. It was a very stressful situation, but Novak made it right, and they it just in time for him to leave out for the trip.

I will be sifting through pictures as I get them from everybody, and I will also be uploading some videos to YouTube, so I will post those ASAP.

Oh and it friggin RUNS guys. Brett and Tyler both opened it up and it was like a missile with 37's!

The attention to detail on this thing is amazing. Very nice ride for sure. This thing is a rocket on the street.

Fixed it for you Ed .

Well, Brent had some small issues coming home, some vibrations and some weird noises, but it still made it home OK. Turns out we managed to score some unknown carnage at the crawl. The rear upper axle truss is bent all to hell and back, the driver side lower engine isolator (mount) is gone, the trans mount is gone, the T-case skid was bent up into the T-case, and the A/C Compressor ripped another hole in the intake tube.

The rear truss appears to have just been too weak for all the power. The bolts were all tight, but it's bowed big time! I am going to call Rock Krawler in the morning when they open and see if the will design a better one and send it to me. Its pretty clear where the weak links are and it could easily be redesigned to prevent it from failing again.

The motor mount is kinda unfortunate... I think it failed due to the nut pulling through the isolator. The remedy is to get a 1/4" longer carriage bolt for the engine plate and then add a thick washer between the rubber and the nut to help spread out the load. I think that both the trans mount and the hole in the intake tube are due to the mount failure.

The t-case skid is simply my fault. I apparently didn't make it strong enough. In my defense, we did SLAM down on it a few times, but still, the skid should have been able to take it. I plan on working on that tomorrow too, and I will hopefully be able to beef it up enough to do better next time.

Other than these small issues, I think everything worked very well. There are some pretty bad noises coming from the transfer case, but I think it may just be due to the fact that the combination of the broken trans mount and bent skid were allowing the t-case to rub on the crossmember and the skid itself. I am going to get it all put back together and fix all of these small things before I decide that the t-case needs going through. But... if it does, it'll be a good time to upgrade to a big chain and sprocket set, as well as a 6 gear planetary.

Oh, and here are a couple more pictures:
