LS2 XJ

I have no experience with that and should probably just shut up :roflmao:

I wouldn't say you need to shut up lol, but I have no concerns with the Jeep PCM... I am sure it will throw 1000 codes, well maybe, maybe not... But it doesn't matter to me. The visible DLC is hooked up to the GM computer, and the CEL will be too. Keep in mind, guys, the thing doesn't even run yet. Hopefully that will change tomorrow though!!! I have to be at the tuner's tomorrow at 9 AM.

I forgot to mention that I got the power steering system all plumbed up today, wired in the 2nd electric fan wired in, the new Tom Wood's rear drive shaft installed, and also the O2 sensors. I do need to hook up a bulb to the CEL wires before I go though, that way it won't keep throwing codes for that.

I did take some pics of the shifter linkages so we will start there first:

Ok, Johnny come lately here. I was planning on the exact same mod. I even had the throw of the 4L60E shifter calculated the same as well as close to the same throw for the XJ shifter. I am working with a Truck tranny though, so my shifter lever was pointing down. I have it off and was going to reposition it up...just like apparently it comes in the GTO! I haven't finished that part of the project yet though because I need to remove the engine/tranny from the vehicle to get to this area so I can figure out how to make the XJ bracket to 4L60E tranny adapter. I'm glad I ran across this as now I've got something to refer to! Good to hear it works.

Also, as for the xj t-case shifter, a LONG time ago on a different rig I repositioned the 231 shifter arm to point UP and then ran a link directly from the handle shifter to the upward pointing t-case lever totally eliminating the bell crank thing. It worked very well. Jeff

I couldn't eliminate the bellcrank b/c the shifter is almost right above the t-case.

On another note... I went to the tuners today and was able to get it running. The only issue we ran into was that the TCM didn't have the B+ wire hooked up, so it wouldn't power on or communicate with anything. Not too bad I guess considering all of the work that was involved. Damn its a fast jeep! Laid down 298 HP at the tires, which puts the engine at about 435 HP at the crank. :woohoo:

Double the rear wheel HP sounds tasty, compared to this....

"When I ran my 2000 back in 2006 on the dyno it had Rusty's K&N, 62mm throttle body, Doug Thorley header, Gibson 2.5" exhaust, and 80,000 miles. It put down 149 hp and 183 torque. 3rd Gear on the AW4."

Not to pick fly poop out of pepper, but I'm thinking the Crank HP isn't that high. Back when I had my stroker dyno'd everything I read or heard from various dyno operators and machine shops suggested a 25% drivetrain loss for a stock drivetrain and tire size.

397-25%=297

Still amazing numbers no matter how you do the math.

Well, it doesn't have stock tires on it... It has 33s with the stock gearing, and the tuner said that the tires were hurting it a little bit. The engines lay down 400 at the crank stock, and this thing only has 19,000 miles on it, so it's basically brand new. Not that the Novak headers are really any better than the factory manifolds, but they do help some. So, I would say he's about right. But who cares really? It hauls ass!

lol, yeah its drivable. We have actually been driving it quite a bit over the past 2 days. However, we really probably shouldn't be b/c we have no gauges... still waiting on Novak to send them back to us. And even when they do, I don't know that they will work. Its like taking the thing to the tuner... moment of truth will be when I plug it in. Everybody keep your fingers crossed though. I don't have time to do custom gauges if there's an issue.

The 1st 500 miles on mine were "gauge-less". Probably not best practice, but I couldn't let mine sit either.

Oh and by the way... the XJ that ran in the Ultimate adventure last year was running a 400 HP LS1 with a DANA 30 front and a DANA 44 rear on 37s.

And didn't break because he knows how to drive! :D

Actually it is was a d30/9" pair. ARB Super 30, chromo, and warn outers. When he brought it home from UA the R&P was toast, thinks he did it on the last obstacle. He also lost the R&P running 35's and a stroker at least one other time too. The d30 has since been replaced with a Spider9.

But to Tyler's and FlexdXJ's point he made it last through some really tough trails with a V8 and big tires by using driving skills.

Fixed it! ;) :conceited

My question is: IS THIS THING COMING TO THE CRAWL? I wanna drool all over it! :D

if all goes well and theres no big snafu's yes it should be

Sweet. Good luck Team Willys! It may be the most badass thing there if it shows! Sorry Brain and Glenn! :D

No problem. I'll give it the kool factor. Bad ass only after I see it beat on and the axles survive. I too hope to see it there. GL Tyler!

Well, the engine stuff is basically done! I got the belt squeaking/jumping off fixed today. Turns out that the tensioner was slightly crooked, so when you revved it up it cause the tensioner to pull the belt off of the A/C compressor. The only thing left is to hook up the fan relays to the GM computer so they will only run when they are needed (they stay on all the time now). And it needs A/C lines made up too. Once the belt was fixed, I decided to get the rear axle built and ready to go. I stripped it all down, removed the Ford brackets, and pulled the cover... OOPS! The whole time we had assumed this thing had an open carrier b/c it didn't have the tag saying that it had a limited slip and synthetic fluid was needed, so the original plans were to throw in an aussie and run it for now, if it broke we would upgrade then. Well, everybody knows you can't put an aussie (or any type of lunch box locker for that matter) into a posi carrier, so that got shot out of the water. Plan B is HOPEFULLY to just bite the bullet and order another ARB for the rear, that is probably the best thing anyway considering the power this thing has. In all honesty its probably a blessing that the Aussie wont work. However, it is Brent's call since he's the one spending the money. You should all encourage him to go for the ARB! Lol.

Basically the only big things left are to build the axles and install the Rock Krawler 3 link front and 4 link rear, and install the ORI struts. There are some small things to do as well, mostly wiring of accessories, but our time frame is looking really really good. We still have 2.5 weeks, and 95% of the parts are here, just need putting together or installed. As long as we get the suspension by the end of this week, or beginning of next, we should be good to go.

Tomorrow I have to help Doug with the Manche and see if I can help him get it running. While Im doing that I will see of Brent want's to come work on his frame stiffners. Then if I have time, or feel up to it, I may start narrowing his front axle housing, or prep the wheels for the beadlock install. Im kinda dead in the water though on parts... the front R&P still hasn't showed up, and now we need a different plan for the rear, so I may be on hold for a day or two. Even with these little hiccups, I don't see any reason as to why we won't be at the crawl with the LS2 XJ! :greensmok
