I bought a 1998 XJ and love it, great car. Everyone warned me that the rocker and door rust will get it. Well the rust is just starting to bubble up. Anyone have suggestions to slow this process down. How about using those warrior side plates, sealing it at least on one side to slow the rusting down? At least it wouldn't show.

any suggestions to slow it down other than a full sheet metal cutout and replace. Just not ready for that project.

nope, the only way you'll stop it is to cut it out and replace.

covering it up is a pratice the swb guys like to do.

Cut it out and replace with 2x6 tubing, guaranteed not to rust through for about 20 years!

Corrosion treatment is possible, but not economical. You'd have to remove the top coat, the base coat and primer and then remove/treat the corrosion, then replace the paint system to prevent future corrosion.

All of which is entirely too much work and money when you can replace the corroded steel with new steel.

I'm having that issue, but its my doors... I really need to get another DD so I can just take the doors off for good... :/
