LOTS of WWII propoganda posters

I'm not Japanese by the way

Well, I knew that. That's why your reference to your eyes didn't make sense. I guess if I'd known you were a liar I could have figured it out.

I have to tell you all that if XJ's were made in Japan they would not have the leaks, squeaks and clunks that we deal with day to day.

I guess you haven't driven my wife's 99Subaru Legacy. Leaky thing it is.

It just astounds me that people still choose to use degrading names when refering to a people's race.

That's classic.
The word 'Jap' is racially degrading, but you have no problems calling people 'rednecks'.

Great stuff.

It was Propaganda. Calm down. We were trying to win a war. Those are old war posters. No one was trying to offend anyone. Context my friend, context.

Correction - we weren't "trying" to win a war - we damn sure did win a war.

I honestly think that if we started doing something similar, instead of being PC all the time (and DAMN the ACLU!) we'd be winning now. I don't count constantly reacting as "winning" a war, by any means. And, we need to start winning hearts and minds here before we can win them abroad.

This is a just war, but not for the reasons stated. I don't support the decision to prosecute the war in the manner we are - but I'll support the people over there fighting it regardless - especially the enlisted (who don't really have a choice - follow orders or go to prison for desertion.) However, we're fighting it all wrong over there, we're fighting it all wrong over here, and we've been using mostly the wrong tactics since the fall of the Shah in the late 1970's. Probably longer.

Flipside? I dated a Japanese woman for about three years, and her father was in the 442 (Walter Okumoto, if you care to check.) Oddly, I seemed to be the first Amerikajin he'd tolerate - probably because I was the first soldier his daughter dated.

I won't go into his stories, but they were sobering... The 442 was the Tuskegee Airmen of WWII, and also paralleled the all-Black unit (10th Cavalry?) of the Civil War - just a bunch of people from somewhere else who wanted to prove they were American.

Come on Beej, who are you kidding? You are a Canuck!
I hope you know that 'Canuck' is a derogatory term that many Canadians take deep offense to, especially when coming from Americans. Its akin to saying Chink, Kraut, Wop, etc.

You can choose anyway you would like to refer to people but in all truth it just makes you look like an uneducated American redneck. Its not about changing words back to humourous epithets based on geographic locations but more about simple, common courtesy and respect for others.

People like yourself generally degrade others to make yourself feel superior and more educated than those around you.

Its a lifelong habit probably and I am not about changing people's traditions.

I am sure your daddy taught you this, and your daddy's daddy etc.....either way, traditions run deep.

Funny though how someone who has probably never been to Canada can open their mouths and act like the Canadians did something against them personally. I have met Americans who actually have been here on vacation who can still accept and respect Canadian culture.

Also, I see you are 33 years old, I am 35 and I can honestly say that you are no more educated than someone who is a mere 2 years your major.

Shame on you! That is some pretty redneck behavior you have exhibited today. You should take a day off :NAXJA: and take an inter-continental cultural awareness class. I know that you represent the minority of the population but I just wanted to let you know that the term Canuck is degrading.

Remember all of the soldiers who served in the Canadian army, who fought bravely and immediately in Europe without attempting to 'stay out of it' until they were attacked at home, and were one of the most decorated groups that the US allied with during WW2. Here is more info if you have read this far:

Its amazing what a little education and history can do for a person though. It just astounds me that people still choose to use degrading names when refering to a people's nationality...

tell you what, you use the word Jap and I'll keep on using the word Canuck, Redneck etc.....

If someone is gonna condone the use of any derogatory terms they should have to live by the same rules.

Only REDNECKS makes stupid rules like that Beej, you are too funny!

Together we can turn this into the most politically incorrect forum just for laughs.

Silly Canuck! I ain't takin no orders from person from NORTH AMERICA :D:D:D:D:D:D

I thought every term, phrase, or word was derogatory if it comes from an American?

It's not content, but delivery. Canucks don't tolerate smugness very well - foreigners or not. It's a British thing I reckon...

It is interesting that tomorrow is the 61st anniversary of the signing of the peace treaty between Japan and the U.S. It reminds me, a couple years ago they were debating where to move the U.S.S Missouri to from it's mooring in Bremerton, WA. It ended up going to Pearl Harbor, but I thought it would have been great to park it in Tokyo Harbor.
