Looking to move from CT to NC

Hello,

My name is Chris. I currently Live on the CT shoreline and have basically had it with this state. In roughly a years time I am looking to move to North Carolina. I am not entirely sure which part of the state I would like to move to but would like to be near the coastline. I was just wondering if anyone could please give me some input it any laws that affect us in the Jeeping world, how much money I should save, etc. If it helps I am a Ford Diesel Mechanic and have already looked and found several Ford dealers in North Carlona looking for Techs. Thanks for any information you can give me.

Why NC? I'm partial to SC... We don't have vehicle inspection...ever. We have a coastline too!

I know there's a BUNCH of Ford dealerships in Horry County. Depending on which part you'd be 30 minutes from the beach...

Another thing... why the coastline? (I can't stand the beach) There's a lot of nice places to live in the upstate near the mountains. If you move near Greenville you'd be within 2 hours of several offroad parks...

The Coastline mainly because in Guilford where I live I am no more than 10 minuites from the water. And I really need to be near the water. I am going with NC becasue it is about half way between Barefoot Bay, FL (where my grandparents live) and CT. This way I can go to either state depending if the is an emergency in either state.

I am really just starting to think about this so my choices are likely change.

Crossroads Ford in Cary, NC is a powerhouse dealer. Can be at the coast in 2-4 hours depending on where you go.

As far as laws go, NC is pretty slack. No fender or lift laws enforced, just your safety and emissions once a year.

NC does have inspections, if that check engine light is on then they dont even let you in, in most countys, nice places to stay would be wilmington, jacksonville, new bern, Im in greenville-home of the East Carolina Pirates , "ECU". 1 1/2 from beach lots of lifted jeeps around, but its humid in the summer..... two or three ford dealerships around

Ya know. I've been on vacation to Kure Beach quite a few times. It's a nice area but I don't think I'd like living there.

Wilmington has some HUGE dealerships... you can live as close to the water as you want to and to top it off there are two offroad beachs nearby, one is in Carolina Beach and one is in Kure Beach.

I would think the research triangle would be the best area to be in with the most possibility of not being effected by the economy.

keep in mind that the closer to the beach you get, the farther away from a decent North/South corridor you get-- Rt13 will take you North "o.k." but to head South, you're probably heading out to I-95.

Iam about 5 min.s from the VA state line and 30-45 min.s from water and its nice here you get the best (and worst) of 2 states. If you search for local Ford dealers hireing tech.s theres one in Suffolk,VA thats always hireing and theres one in Ahoskie and Elizabeth city NC thats always hireing. Suffolk is about 15 min.s north of us (inside VA) and E city is about 30 mins east and ahoskie is about 15 min.s SW of us.

Yeah I think I will def look at Wilmington. If I find something good somewhere away from the beach in NC i will proably take. No the big question what should my budget be for the move?

One other thing to consider about moving to the NC coast line...hurricanes. Not sure how prone you are currently in CT to getting them, but NC is usually right on the line of getting hit or missed when one comes out of the Atlantic. This year we were lucky that all the ones that came up either scraped the coast and did little to no damage, or stayed out to sea.

If that doesn't bother you i'd atleast look into some kind of hurricane insurance on where ever you move...not sure but it might actually be a requirement down there now that I think about it (kind of like flood insurance is a requirement if your home is deemed in a flood zone).

Passing vehicle inspections in NC isn't real difficult if you know what you're doing. Some stations are anal about everything, and others in the more back woods counties will pass you no problem unless you have a huge problem with your vehicle.

CT doesnt get hit real bad with hurricanes. Long Island usually gets hit pretty bad.

are u able to pull a uhaul, or drive a uhaul box. prob not that much depends how much stuff u have. u lookin to buy a house or rent

I am going to rent first. I think my Jeep could pull a uhaul box no problem, but i think I will load my Jeep to the gills and then have a friend or my parents drive a uhaul truck down.
