looking for wiring diagram

First off, I did try searching for this before posting this request.

A while back, a year or so ago, I remember a post to rewire the aux fan for manual bypass or normal operation.

This post was from someone who used additional relays, not a switch kit or temp sensor from an auto parts store. This post included a detailed wiring diagram and parts list.

It was for a 1996 XJ, so it involves the ECU/PCU stuff.

What year XJ? The Renix XJ's make it simple, just needing to wire a toggle switch in parallel with the thermal fan sensor in the driver's side radiator tank.

With the later model XJ's, I would look for the relay, and see if it's "hot-triggered" (most likely) or "ground-triggered." Most domestic vehicles have a constant ground circuit, and the hot side of the circuit has the switch in it. Run a separate trigger into the fan relay thru a toggle switch, and you have a relay with two "triggers."

I'd have to dig up wiring diagrams (I have them somewhere) to get wire colours and the like, but it should only be a couple wires and a switch installed at your covenience.
