I have a redtop that's dead and i tried getting a warranty replacement at Kragen. They said they can't do anything without a receipt. Let me know if you have one that I can "borrow"

that sucks...Napa never hassles me over there Orbital..actually gotta swap batteries ASAP..... i might be able to talk to my buddy that works at "O'reilly" now lol..anyway yeh i can talk to him and see if he will stress on the reciept...although it might be a vendor thing and there could be no way around it for them unless the store eats the battery. no promises but i will see whats up for you.
Thats BS. When you warranty a Optima they call in with the melted date on the side of the battery to determine the warranty status and if there will be a pro-rata. You do not need a receipt.
Thanks for the info guys. The guy behind the counter was from corporate since my kragen is in the process of becoming oreilly. He was a total jerk. I left pissed since he said I was pretty much sol on a $200 battery.
Cody, I’m sorry to hear about the problems you’ve been having and I’d like to help. What is the current voltage of your battery and what were the circumstances surrounding your issues? If it ends up that your battery is defective, I may be able to assist you, but some form of proof of purchase is generally needed. Unfortunately, a few dishonest people have forced retailers to create policies that inconvenience the honest majority.

Hey thanks Jim for offering help! My redtop is currently putting out 9v and 6v under load. I charged it, but it was dead before I was able to put it back in the jeep. So I took the battery to Kragen to get tested and they verified it was no good. I got the battery as a Christmas present in '08, that's why I do not have a receipt. They did not have any history of the battery in my name or my moms because they had switched from kragen to oreilly computers. I understand the reason for such policies, a few dishonest people wreck it for the rest of us.
Thanks again

Cody, when you recharged the battery, what was the voltage when you stopped charging it? Fully-charged, your battery should read approximately 12.6-12.8 volts. Since you indicated your battery is under 10 volts, I should mention that many battery chargers have voltage thresholds that will prevent them from recognizing or charging any battery that has been discharged below a certain level. This threshold can be as high as 10.5 volts. That means a person can hook a battery up to a charger and walk away, thinking the battery is getting a charge, when in fact, there is no current flowing.
If that is the case with your charger, you can use a second charged battery in parallel to charge your discharged Optima, by using the technique described in this video- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dIoaL3DWWEg
In the event that your battery cannot be recharged, does your mom have any form of proof of purchase? This can include a cancelled check or credit card statement indicating a purchase at that store for the approximate amount? I just checked my credit card online and I can pull up copies of my statements from two years ago, in case she didn’t hold onto statements.
i love my yellow top. Bought it a little over a year ago have killed it soo many times beeing stoopid and it always takes a charge and gets proper again.
Op if use your moms online bank statements from whenever she purchased it.
Hey Jim, the battery was fully charged when I removed it from the charger. My mom was able to look at past statements online and wasn't able to find anything that related to the purchase of the battery. She said she probably used cash to buy the battery. I understand that without some sort of documentation I might be out on a warranty. Either way it's way cool that you took time to try to help me out.
I'm sorry to hear your mom wasn't able to find any proof of purchase on your battery. That really limits my ability to assist you with a warranty claim. If I can be of assistance in the future, please don't hesitate to contact me.
