can anyone suggest someting close-ish (within 200mi) of denver? Would like to find something in the forest that is nice for tent camping with the dogs and all the CO state parks are booked up.
No 4 wheeling since it's not working...

There is an almost unlimited number of places you can camp in the national forrest for free. Do you have an area in mind? What dates? If you don't have a specific area, what are your requirements? Lakes, streams, trees, views?

There are so many it's hard to choose and I don't have time to run around checking them out before hand.

I'd like a lake, a view, but it's GOT to be in the trees. I don't have an area in mind but don't want to drive mroe than a couple hours if I can avoid it.

Jackson creek down here by castle rock is nice, but closed, and noisy because of all the ATV/dirt bike traffic...

last time we went to pearl lake state park up by steamboat, it was GREAT but it's booked through the rest of the summer now.
