My co-worker wants to buy an MJ. He wants a manual trans and a decent body. I'm not seeing too much on craigslist right now. If you run across any for sale, let me know. He's willing to travel or have it shipped. Thanks.

fixed.

If you want one that's not a rust bucket that's the reality. TN or farther south is the only place to find a solid one.

Truth. We can get down to Tennessee in a day and I'm already looking at ads down there. On the other hand, I've bought a few things in decent shape in Michigan where the previous owner imported from Florida or some other state.

My new used tow rig should show up tomorrow. I bought it in California and had it shipped due to exactly what you said.

I love 7.3 idi engines. One of my fleet customers still runs a couple. They will not die. The truck is s pile of rust, but the engine runs great

they are pretty much unkillable.

Make sure you only do Beru glo plugs. The other brands have a reputation for mushrooming and breaking off. Then you have to pull the head to retrieve them.
I'd just go ahead and plan on ordering all of the return line fittings as well. There's a good chance it has air intrusion that also leads to extended crank times.

and make sure you run some kind of fuel additive to lubricate the DB2. Since ULSD happened the lubricity of fuel is way lower than what the pump was designed for. I started with diesel power, but ended up just running 2 stroke oil in the fuel after a while. Way cheaper, but I was also filling a 50 gallon tank in a truck that got 8-10 MPG.

x2 on all of it. BWD makes a pretty nice return kit. BWD 14952.

Thanks for the tips. I've heard about using beru/motorcraft glow plugs. Hopefully the last guy to install a set was aware of it too. Also heard about adding something to the fuel for lubricity.

I wasn't aware of the reform line fittings. The part number is helpful. For that price I'll definitely order a kit, sounds like it'll be good preventative maintenance whether I have air intrusion or not.

Well leaky return lines won't give you air troubles, it will just fill the valley full of fuel until it piddles out the drain hole in the back of the block. Air intrusion will be on the suction side of things. If its got nylon lines (the ends are nylon, the long length is steel) you can use this kit (doorman 800-300) to replace them with an all nylon line, the 5/16 nylon line is also available by itself.

on mine the leaky return lines let air in, then when you turned the truck over it would fire, until the air returned to the pump/filter housing.

then it died, and would take a lot of cranking to reprime.
