Looking for 4.56 gears

Need em for my 98. I'm running 35s these days and I'd like to get back to stock or better. 8.25 and the 30 up front.

Used is fine.

Thanks!

Re: Looking for 4.88 gears

OK, I wish i could edit this but I'm going with 4.56s now. I've got the rear taken care of. Now I need the front.

I have a set of 4.56 gears for a high pinion dana 30. I'll have to get them off the carrier they are currently on. I bought them from a guy who said they were 4.10s like I wanted but when I received them they turned out to be 4.56 so I don't need them. Shipping from here to Altus probably won't be too expensive either.

Eric,
I think I paid like 40 bucks for a stock open carrier from 4wheel parts if no one has a good used ones for the 4.56's

stock open carrier? I was under the impresion we needed to buy a bigger carrier to fit the lower gears. Wouldn't buying a stock open carrier be useless?

Partly right....There is a gear ratio break in the D30 carriers. I believe it breaks at 3.55 and numerically lower and 3.73 and numerically higher. You would need the 3.73 and numerically higher carrier. The carrier is the same but the flange where the ring gear bolts to gets moved a little.
As far as buying a stock carrier being useless, that's up to what you want to do. If you are going to install a lunchbox style locker it will be perfectly fine. But if you want a true locker then you will want to by the whole locker.
There is a difference in the high pinion and low pinion D30's as far as the gears to also. Do you have the high or low pinion?

I have the high pinion. So there is a stock carrier that is for 3.73 and higher? The manual 4 cylinder XJs were 3.73 right?

You should have a new PM.
