lifting a 4.0 I-6 out

I am guessing you had a good bit of trans fluid run out the torq converter?

anyway should only have to remove the four bolts attaching the converter to the flexplate (flywheel). get to them through/via the bottom front of the converter.

My torque converter remained attached to the auto trans. It's still there. Will it fall out on its own if I lower the trans? I don't want a trans fluid spill.

While we are on the subject of removing things, I'd like to take the flywheel off the crank since the CPS ring is too tall to allow me to bolt the engine up to my engine stand. There are 6 bolts and these are on very tight. Any tricks to get them loose?

Thanks!

I used an air impact wrench. (air tools rock!) Barring that, time to get creative. :D

You should pull the torque converter foward and then tip the top toward you as it slides off the shaft, it requires no tools. It is filled with trans fluid.

Air tools are handy, but any 1/2" wratchet or a breaker bar or long box wrench will work. You will need to keep the flex plate from turning by using a wrench on one of the other nuts on the crank or on the bolt holding your harmonic damper on.
