Les Scwhab Tires

Scwhabb is pretty much a NW anomaly, and if you live in oregon you know as well as i do 1 out of every 2 or 3 cars on the road is running a schwab tire. However, i have never found any opionions or reviews of any of schwabs off road tires except the toyo mud terrain.

i was wondering if anyone is running the RVT Mudder or the Wildcat EXT and has anything to say about them

thanks for anything

I have run their all terrains, IMHO they are kinda stiff on road and are louder then my Truxus MT

One of my friends ran RVT mudders in the 33" flavor on his 01 Tacoma. They did ok in the mud. But he tore a 6" gash in the side wall going through an automatic car wash. So as long as you are offroad you should be OK :)

i have the TXR mudders in 33x12.50 and they do alright - i've never been stuck, even before i replaced my fronts and rotated the fronts to the rear. my rears were cupped so bad (and one had like 6 nails in it) that it was absolutely time to replace them. i would say NOT BAD for a tire that retails for <$150. i will admit though that the reason i didn't go with a whole different set is that i already had a brand new full-size spare, and a $75 gift cert. to les schwab courtesy of NW fest. this influenced my decision greatly.

all of that being said, i'm planning on trying to do a 44/hp44 swap next summer in which case i will go to a 35" or 36" tire of some sort and get rid of these.

yeah im going to be getting new tires probably within a month or two for a 3 - 3.5 inch lift......so 31s

and im just trying to weigh my options.......im really liking the trxus m/t, i havent heard one bad thing about them, but you cant go two blocks in portland without seeing a les scwab and everyone runs thier stuff so i was just wondering what they had to offer.....which is why i put this in the NW forum not modified tech

about the trxus mt, how many miles does a set generally give? this is a dd, i tried searching but didnt find a huge discussion of them onroad, beside "oh they are good on road"

I had some 30's on my first XJ from Les Schwab. Couldn't complain. When I priced them out for my new toy, they were just too expensive.

I've had good luck with schwab tires. I've also got a set of Trxus MT 31", and had a previous set of Trxus MT's. The guys around here running the Schwab Open Country 35's or greater say they just positively love them.... even better that the GY MT's. I do love the Trxus MT radials though, better than the GoodYear MT's I've had.

And in favor of Schwab in the Northwest, at least anywhere you go there is a tire shop and they (to my experience) have been very good at backing up what they sell.

They're good CHEAP tires. You get what you pay for. For those of you running them, have you aired them down much? I've had 2 or 3 friends who when running them, aired down like we do on the trails, then shortly afterwards experienced broken belts in multiple tires. Les Schwab told them it was caused by running too low on pressure and would not warranty them. They stated that their tires are not designed to be run while aired down.

I've run Les Schwab tires on a couple of different trucks (not on my XJ) and thought they did pretty good. I had some 33" TXR's aired down to 12 psi at Reiter on a Montero, and they did great. I have 35" Toyos on the XJ, but haven't driven it yet(soon, very soon).

Les Schwab is like many many places, they have the cheap bargain stuff, and they have stuff that costs you. The new toyo stuff isn't cheap. The Open Country 35" and up aren't cheap. I've run stuff aired down (schwab) and haven't had any problems, and I've run Trxus MT's aired down and slit sidewalls. Half dozen one the other. A lot of the sidewall issues just go with Lady Luck and what you run into on the trail that day. :)

If I was really going in to hard core trail tires, then I'd have two sets, one for the road and another for the trails, and swap them around as needed. But lots of guys don't have the bucks to play the game that way and so they are onto a compromise kind of situation.

And of course, tires are like cars....................... heh the old Chevy vs Ford vs Chrysler thing too. :)

i do a hell of alot of driving for work...got a set of 32's XTX flavor. Excellent traction, great wear rate...and even though I got them at work..they STILL do flat repair without proof of purchase. :D

It is my understanding that the Wild Country/Wildcat tires are either Kelly or Dunlop carcass with W.C./Wildcat tread.
I just bought a set of the Mud Terrain SXT, which are made by Dean. Nice and quiet on the highway. My brother, who is a Les Schwab assistant manager in CA tells me the SXT's are great in snow and ice. I'm looking to find out shortly.
The great part is that they have so many stores in the N.W. They can also order pretty much any tire you want.

Thanks for the input everyone....

Now i have a choice to make, and its a pretty simple one.
I am basically settled on the Trxus..... So i have to decide if that is worth giving up the awesome locations and service of schwab over. You say schwab can order tires for you- Can they get the trxus? And do the massive schwab warranties still apply?

If not it might be Tire Factory or 4 Wheel Parts....

thanks a lot, im only 17 but ill be joining in may when i turn 18... lookin like ill probably have a 3 inch lift and 31" trxus by then....

Thier warranties and service are pretty unbelievable. Not to mention, i got bored, went to their website and did their store finder search for all of OR. A loose finger count on my screen as i scrolled down counted 101.

One hundred and one les schwabs in oregon, all recognizing that tire warranty. To me, thats worth it, even if the tire i want costs a little more.

You know I have had Free flat repair from them on three separate occasions with NON Les Schwab tires. And it is only like $7 dollars if they charge you anyway.

Of course their Roadside Assistence is nice too. I have a friend lose a tire on the way to Idaho, called up the local Les Schwab. They came to him in the middle of a snow storm with a new wheel and tire(not free) for his jeep. Now that is service.

I deal with Les Schwab twice a week for work and they have treated me great. They have handled all my personal stuff w/o having their tires. Treatment is different store to store though because there is a privately owned Les Schwab closer to my house but the service there sucks. Then again the store that comes to my work might just want us happy so they can keep the business account. Either way I am buying tires from them when the time comes.

I think Sniggs is running those. He never wheels though, so let's see what he lies about.

:D:D:D
Phil has it right - I'm running 31x10.5 EXTs from Les Schwab. The only problem is when I hit the runway coming down - they tend to chirp LOUD!

Let's see if I can blow out the Margin here...

well... HE started it!

i used to run sxt's on my jeep. they do work very well in snow and on ice. mileage on them is over 40k. now i run 33x13.50 open country mts. they aren't as good on the ice, but love them otherwise. i did run some worn 31" ext's for a while; traction on the pavement in the rain was low.
schwab can order any tire, even swampers. i dont think they will warrant all of them though.
