laser eye surgery

Yeah exactly my issue I am spending every year somewhere around at least 500 bucks on glasses even if laser surgery costs me 3k which is what I am figuring for ill be ahead in a few years. plus I want to be a fighter pilot so i have to have perfect vision so hopefully theyll correct it to 2020 or better

any other doctors that anybody knows of maybe a little closer to me driving out to ventura is quite a ways for me lol maybe a little more locally in orange county?

I sound like a commercial, I'm sure, but I'd honestly encourage you to call Dr. Shapiro and ask him if he has anyone he'd recommend.

I know I'm acting like this guy is mohammed or something, but I know a few people here at work who had family members/spouse's who went to the "penny-saver coupon" eye centers and several of them now have fu##ed up eyes, that they're having to have someone correct. He's really the main dude in this field.

Totally understand the distance thing though..that's tough, especially seeing how you probably will need several visits, AND have someone drive you home the day of the surgery. Maybe look into getting a hotel for a few days/long weekend? I grew up in Ventura/Camarillo and I'm poor, haha, but there's honestly a few nice hotels (La quinta, best western) nearby that you and a buddy or girlfriend could stay at.

Lots of great taco shops and an In-n-out near the office, too. :D

If I go to see shapiro, is he gonna just have some other dr in his office do it?
Seems like by now he is pretty popular and busy. I wonder if there is a significant wait.

check out TLC vision eye center. I know at least 10 people that went there and not one issue all happy. when i can afford it i will go there too

I had my corrective surgery done back in 1995 when there were no lasers. The cuts were made by an actual blade. I still remember seeing that blade coming towards my eye and the doctor saying, "Don't move".

I had it done by Dr. Manger at the Saddleback Eye Center in Laguna Hills. They use lasers now. ;)

I've been considering this for years... the whole LAZORS SHOOTING IN MY EYE thing freaks me out though.

worst part of eye surgery... what came out of my mouth after hearing that when I was in to have a metal fragment removed from my cornea was entirely unprintable, I'm a huge pansy about eye stuff. That and the price are the only reasons I haven't taken the plunge yet.

Well guys I have three consultations set up all around me locally. There is Dr. Moosa's office in Brea which I was recommended to by several people. Then there is a place directly across the street from my college csuf that has one of the best doctors in the biz so I am going to them and then one other place is a place where I had some family go years ago in Fullerton as well. I did call Dr. Shapiros office but unfortunately there only suggestions were still quite aways from me but they were very nice so I think if youre closer or care to drive that far go see them for sure.
thanks for the help guys

I will definitely let you know. I know it is pretty much different for all but I can give you what it is for me and what my eyes are like so everyone has and idea. Thursday is my first one possibly two consultations so till then.

Okay so yesterday I had my first of three consultations. It actually went really well everything was good my eyes are very healthy and I have very thick corneas which is very good because it means I am more than good for surgery. The doctor was nice and very knowledgeable and the visit was comfortable. However on the flip side their price was outrageous in my opinion. For the best machine they have with the intralase which means they create the flap with the laser they want 4400 if i pay in full. If I do the best machine with the blade created it was 3800 and the older machine is 3800 with intralase or 2900 with blade

Wow, have prices gone up that much?

Im really not sure and I was told that my prescription is pretty average and that I am pretty much what they see all the time so if those are the average prices wow just wow. I am really hoping that place was just really expensive is all. Very nice people and I would recommend people go have a consultation with them for sure because they are very helpful and sincere but for me the price seems high but that could be what its going to cost me I am not sure.

Mine was $3000.00, 10 years ago. While very expensive, $4400.00 seems somewhat appropriate for a legit operation.

just my take.

P.S. mine was with the flap, and the laser on whichever machine Shapiro uses...

thats actually the place I am going to for a consultation on thursday. the third place is Dr. Moosa in Brea. I did a lot of research and the three doctors I am getting consultations with are three of the best so I am hoping the price will go down but I am going to get it and if thats what it costs thats what it costs.
After my thursday appointment I will let you all know how it goes and what prices are like from them.

About 15 years ago Dr. Tooma had a house built in Tustin, North Hills, and it was showcased in the annual House of Design, Philharmonic Society of Orange County... all I have to say, this guy is making big bucks.. it was a Tuscany inspired Italian Villa way up in the hills. Huge!

I remember back then he was considered the best Lasik surgeon in the nation... with his credentials he definitely earned his money.

Good luck with your surgery.. I looked into surgery many years ago and was advised not to because I'm nearsighted, have an astigmatism and I would just trade one problem for another.
