King of The Hammers 2011

Yeah blm and course/crowd management were on top of it. There was a couple cool dudes sitting next to us from blm. Every one was drinking n when they came up everyone tried to hide it. N he yells. I COME IN PEACE . If I wasn't working is be drinking with you. He was a cool guy. Let us know of updates and race reports over his walkie.

And the so called 10 "donation" was more like a mandatory entry fee per person. Haha but yes worth every penny.

this year was super fun.. but super dusty.. to much dust .. overall was fun.. seen bout 100 rollovers and several fires .. the only thing i didnt like is that u couldnt sit closer to the track where it was "safe to sit u had to sit on the dust/sand/rock mountain .. the problem with having people up to far on the mountain is that people knock rocks off the mountain.. i know it seems safer.. but all in all id rather trust my self around a vehicle then someone above me on the mountain knocking a boulder into my head..

I talked my way out of it. I had to borrow gas money from my brother to get there, not about to pay $10 for porta potties, and Hammertown. I hadn't heard anything bout it til we got there. They tried real hard to get me to pay though.

I gotta say, it's probably better off keeping people away from the course. Especially in light of the MDR 200, we can't afford to have another accident from people being unreasonably close.

My day out there was cut short, brother busted his leg from hitting some whoops to hard on his dirt bike, so I got to play ambulance with my Jeep. Not many pictures for me, but I did get some shots of that cray hydro legged contraption...

When we rolled up we were under the impression it was Mandetory as well. I'm more than happy to pay for it if it keeps the desert open, just glad I happened to have cash in hand when we showed up since I had no idea there'd be a charge to get in. Got some good videos, unfortunately for some reason some of the "Good videos" I thought I had only came out as pics. Maybe operator error, or maybe because those were extra-long duration and my iPhone didn't like that... Videos will eventually make their way to YouTube & I'll post a link to my page for those who are interested when I've got em up.

A lot of awesome shots, Cracker! I love the irony that it was the Torchmate car that was working on torching itself... I wonder how long it took them to figure it out?

well even though his coords would be cool, the street corners are well laid out this year with street signs even. And you can not camp with him in that location. Well unless he is all alone. The pit areas are very limited. The general public is limited to the area east of the pits and Hammertown.

He camped with us. You didn't need pit passes to camp there. We were outside of the pit tent area (which was more restrictive) and in the open pit area, but still just off the race course...if that makes sense.

I barely logged on the internet after we got there because of how busy we were...and the wind/dust storm monday night was incredible.

I only saw a few NAXJA people, John B and Sean Rose...and SC Redneck, who also pitted with us. I saw several XJ in all kinds of conditions but didn't know who was NAXJA and who was not. It was a busy week prepping the car and making "mandatory" meetings.

I just got home after 6 days in the truck and 6 days on the lakebed...and 5200 miles...

Oh yeah, we finished 33rd... respectable in my book!

mac 'put 120 miles of lake bed on my XJ also' gyvr

Sorry I missed you. There was a bunch of folks I didn't get a chance to run into. Next time.

Great seeing you out there Tony. You too Robert :) The Bronco's looked great. We had a blast as always and will be back next year....maybe I'll remember the camera next year :)

Chris

I got back last night, and it was great. Hats off to the promoters, and the BLM, the $10 were worth every penny. The BLM was out in full effect, we saw the policing, politing, but firmly. They were giving out tickets for people without seatbelts (rhinos and things like that) as well as looking for people drinking and driving. All in all was very safe in my opinion, and well put on.

Also, congrats to Shannon, for showing them an IFS can indeed be King of the Hammers!!
