Katemcy Memorial Day Weekend Roll Call

Memorial Day Weekend Bash.

There is no registration or sign up sheet. Just show up and wheel

Three days wheeling - Sat, Sun, Mon (till 3:00 p.m.)
BBQ and Band Saturday night
Driver's raffle - winch giveaway
Camping Fri-Sun

Cost:
$100/driver includes all of the above
$35/passenger includes all the above except the winch raffle
Kids under 12 are free

This is a three day event with a big crowd. Unfortunately, we cannot effectively police who paid for: Sat only, Sat - Sun wheeling, no BBQ, I'm staying in town, I'm not going to listen to the band, I dont want the raffle, etc...SO, the prices above are what you will have to pay if you arrive Fri night or Sat during the day. (Keep in mind that a Jeep Jamboree event is $295 per person and $150/kid over 5).

If you arrive Sunday morning, you will only have to pay the two day rate of $50/driver. If you arrive Sunday after dark or Monday morning you will only have to pay the $35/driver rate.

I talked to Scott about this on the phone earlier. This is my take:

It sucks. Yeah, it's a 3 day weekend special event, but they still should have posted this online a while ago. That being said, I'm still down for either Friday night or Saturday morning early.
This will keep the park from filling up to the max and it means you'll have more wheeling time. Imagine if they only charged half and there was a line 10 rigs deep at every obstacle. How much time would you spend wheeling and how much would you spend in something akin to rush hour traffic?

If they charge this special rate, attendance will be lower(hopefully not among the RRC members) and you'll have more access to the trails.
I'd rather spend $100 and one weekend to get in some badass wheeling at Katemcy than spend $50 twice on two separate weekends to get the same amount of wheeling in.

Your thoughts?
 
Yeah i was tempted to go ahead and do the 7 hour trip to get there, but I am not going to do 7 hours and pay out the A$$. I can just go to Barnwell for weekend with the free passes I have, or go to Superlift for less than $50, and both of those are about 5 hours closer to me. Sorry guys, I just can't justify it.
 
shoot this really puts me between a rock and a hard place. i was just gonna go saturday, but if you have to pay $100 thats alot plus gas plus lunch. plus im probably going to have a passenger so that would be more as well.

i could get monday off and head up there maybe on sunday morning and leave monday. i dunno now. would anyone else be willing to do a sunday/monday run? i wouldnt have a passenger then either. that and alot of people would probably leave sunday and monday there would be no one there. what do yall think about that?
 
So, if everyone had to make a decision now: I'm the only one that's in??

I'm writing this email begging that we be able to come to some solution about the weekend's fee's.

I'm not writing on the behalf of the NAXJA.org Cherokee Club but can speak for them all that 90% of the club attending can only attend Saturday and would very much appreciate that we pay the Standard weekend one day rate or at least maybe $10 - $15 more than the normal rate to help out with the event.

We would love to stay and participate with the festivity's but sadly it's just not possible for various reasons. Could we possibly help by buying a different color wrist band to help identify that we cannot participate or some other way of helping out?

All of us would very much like to bid farewell to Katemcy Rocks but as it is our club run looks to be over before it started."
 
i really hope that works as well. i really want to go. if i had to decide right now i probably wouldnt go, but that could change more than likely. but i havent made an official decision.

there is a run june 13th and 14th and it is an open even. that is the official last run ever. what about going out that day?? im down for that.

No im not. I can not get 3 days of on a holiday weekend like this.
 
Any update on the email??

It turns out that i am going and i am going to have a passenger with me. also i am going to be broke after that weekend as well :looney:

so i should be going just saturday so hopefully something will happen so where i wont have to pay for camping etc etc.

so who is going from centex area that wants to caravan?
 
I will be at Barnwell most likely, and possibly at superlift this sunday if anyone wants to come out.
 
Contingency plan:

Since money itself seems to be the problem here, what about something cheaper but keeping Katemcy on the books. Hidden Falls is doing a Memorial Day Special of $20 a day and no camping fees. Still close to the area and something new that I haven't done yet.

Katemcy's absolute last weekend is June 13-14th. I've got an obligation on Saturday, but I could make one last farewell trip there on Sunday the 14th.

How does this plan sound?
