I went to the Pick-A-Part to look for some tow hook brackets and a t/c skidplate well, I found at least 4 sets but, here's the kicker......when they set the vehicles on these stands they use, they set them (the stands) right underneath the tow hooks...crap!.....so, I find a small bottle jack laying around and it looks as if it's going to allow me to get at them then, I notice, that half of the bolts holding them on are Torx head and me (of course) without any drivers.....aaaarrrrgggghhhh! I did find the t/c skid plate, though, paid $12 and went home to install it only to find out my crossmember and frame rail don't have any weldnuts to bolt to (the holes are there, though????) luckily, I had some nutserts in the garage. I'm sure my neighbors wouldn't have wanted to hear me scream and yell, anyway. Thankyou for letting me vent. P.S. I'm going back there to get those brackets better equipped, next time---------Hans

I hate when stuff like that happens. A few weeks ago, I went to the local pick-and-pull to look for some springs for a bastard pack. I found a Comanche that was missing a rear axle, which meant all I needed to do was get the center pin out, and take all the leaves but the main. But no, the wheels that the MJ was sitting on were right under the springs. And of course there were no jacks allowed in that yard, and none to be found.

same problem here too! they always set the Damn thing up on the welded wheels and right under the axel or springs! AAAARRRGGGHHHHH!:firedevil

I haven't ask if they allow jacks and I don't think I've seen any...but they do have those giant A-frames on car tires and you can get a hoist with a small returnable deposit....

think I'll just hook it to the damn bumper and raise the whol ething and reposition the wheels/chocks! Mans that's a ton of work for a bastard pack! but if you ain't got the $$$ ...you got to put the sweat equity into it!:D

and dust.... and cuts.... and blood....and grease...GOD I love this $hit!:D

A new but, somewhat related bitch session. On the way home from work today, me and a buddy hit a couple of yards, me looking for the tow hook brackets again, him looking for stuff for his '72 Chevy truck he's restoring. Well, I came up with nothing again....... So, later, I'm walking my two dogs and I'm walking back home and I spy something laying in the street....It's one of my spare birfield joints (an aftermarket, cryoed alloy $$$ one) that I keep in a tube under the bed of my Toyota p/u, I get home and find that one of the end caps is gone along with the other joint, again....aaaarrrrgggghhhh!!!! Somebody probably tried to steal whatever they thought it must have been because, those caps just don't fall off, they've endured several offroad trips and my plumber buddy assured me of it. Damn! these tow hook brackets are getting exspensive!---------Hans

i went to my local juckyard to get a roof rack for a foglight bar i was making, they did not have any of my year. but i went back there to look around. (it was my first time at a junkyard) i find the xj section (as far back as you can go) and look around. i found a 92 and a 94 with no rails but it had the ends. i found a 90 with no roof rack but it was totaled. (i just like taking about totaled cars) i never found the rack i needed at 3 yards. but i did find a set of spearkers that now sit in back both blown. that make 3 speakers i have blown. i think i have a problem.

i hope you have better luck next time. and remember. don't scream your head off unless your garage door is closed.

my junkyard i go to. had the cars sitting with the wheels on them. the only problem is i wanted the rear hatch lock and it was backed right up to a van.

My favorite yard just making you pay 2 bucks just to get in, and the lady at the gate now charges you off of a price list. Before you could get a 5 gal bucket of parts for 10 to 15 bucks, providing that you paid cash just before lunch time to the greasest guy you could find.

And why do people just rip and tear the dashboard to pieces just to get a switch?

Yep. You should stop buying speakers at the pick-n-pull... try someplace like Crutchfield, or Best Buy or something... ;)

Just for the heck of it, I called the stealership to see how much they wanted for the ever elusive tow hook brackets...... try $85 a piece just for the brackets (no bolts or hooks), yikes! So, I called a couple of Jeep only yards and they didn't have a clue about what I was talking about (jeez!). That motivated me to lift those Jeeps off of those stands to get at them at all costs!...... Went to Harbor Tool and spent $10 on a set of 9 Torx drivers (a steal!) drug me buddy out there with me (thanks, Skip!) along with a bottle jack and got those suckers, (stacking old rims and tires make good rerplacement stands) and only paid $18, complete with hooks bolts and frame sleeve nuts! I also picked up a gas tank skid plate (thanks, Tony, from NAXJA for finding that!) ....er, splash shield for another $19. All in all a pretty good haul....... it made the loss of that birfield a little less painful. Thanks, for letting me rant--------Hans
