Just got the Coleman rack today...

missed the boat? i just orderd one 3 days ago did they sell out or discontinue?
 
update guys, sorry for the camera phone pics. I'll try to take some with my camera before I put it up. The one leaning against the door is painted.

So how did you attach the 6 cross bars? I read your post about putting nuts on it or something but everything looks smooth??? Did you open the ends of the existing ones so it was hollow and get threaded rod that slipped inside of it? If that's how, I guess you had to un-bolt your main extensions, then slide everything into 1 side and then attach the 2nd half? You did your main extensions exactly how I did.

By the way...Duplicolor Black Bedliner spray is an EXACT match to the existing paint on there. I didn't even have to repaint the whole thing because you couldn't tell where I had painted or where I didn't.
 
I ended up getting steel round stock. I cut the round stock 3 inches longer then the gap and slid the round stock into teh open end of each rack cross bar. It fit very tight. I didnt have to dissasemble the rack to do it I just slid one end in and then the other. I used a 3/8's ratchet extension and put a dimple in the cross bar tubes to hold the round stock in place so it wouldnt slide down the tube. After that I put the 4 cross bars on by welding them to the 6 I had already installed. Then I primed it and painted it. Its actually really strong. I'm planing on getting a gutter mount system for it or finding 2 more xj cross bars to stiffen the whole thing up.

Cool. That's a good idea. So do you remember the size of the round stock you use? ...or are you going to make me come up with a digital calipar and figure it myself...:spin1:

I'm going to do this to mine and get rid of my current floor system. Yours has mine beat.

I just measured the inside diameter of the existing tubes. Dont remember, for the 4 cross bars I just grabbed the next size bigger. I would have put 6 in but Lowes only had 4 instock so thats what it got. I will have to measure them since I cant remember.

I don't know but I checked the Costco website about 2 months or so ago and it said unavailbale back then and it still keeps saying unavailbale and some of guys bought your racks just of last week so that doens't add up

Okay now Im pretty pissed, I ordered my rack from costco.com, recieved a confirmation last week then I get home today and I have an e-mail saying they are canceling my order. That really sucks!
 
I just sent them a long e-mail. I will probably calll them too. Ofcourse this is the first time something like this has happened to me from them in the 17 years I have been a member.

Man, I don't see how you guys are finding this. I JUST went to the site and typed in coleman roof rack and it's NOWHERE to be found. It keeps coming up with their roadtrip ski racks. That f*cking sucks if they went from $59 to $234 shipped! I would much rather have an Olympic mountaineer rack for $200 bucks (since I planned on using the coleman for the interior cargo area) that is way more beefy.

Still, a deal is a deal and if you purchased it and they honored it, they should stick to the price even if they have to take a loss.
 
Click on the link in the first page of this thread. The roof rack is nowhere near worth $200. I wouldnt have payed more then $100 for it. So if you missed out on this deal it would make more sense to spend the money and get a good one now.

Yup, agreed. Maybe I will just have to keep checking periodically to see if I get lucky and they have it available again for that price.....somehow I doubt it though
 
The one in the new pic on the costco site is different then the one I just got. The cross bars have loops at the end. But I would have had to cut them to do the extension like I did. And also if you look at the new pic it wouldnt be possible to put tere extension in any longer.
