While doing some searching for this rack I didn't see a lot of info on it. Just the same stuff and 2 pictures. So I'm posting to ask if any of you want any info or specific pictures of it. I just got it tonight and put it together and it should be on the jeep tomorrow. So if you want any info let me know and i'll get back to you in this thread.

I think he was referring to the Coleman two-piece Safari rack, which can be purchased for about $200 at stores like Target. Not a bad price for a quicky tube rack.

Here's a link I came up with: http://www.coleman.com/coleman/colemancom/detail.asp?product_id=2224-710&categoryid=500

I think it looks pretty flimsy from the pics I saw, but it might provide a cheap solution for those on a budget. It wont replace a durable Conn Ferr rack, but it would definately work to haul your lighter crap. I might like one on my popup trailer next to the bike racks.

even uses an XJ as the vehicle model in the photo just wanted a few other pics since the guy offered.

for $75 i dont think i can go wrong though, really good value. I kinda wanted to make my own fullsize rack ala farmer matts, or kevins from www.kevinsjeepparts.com

i need a bender and to borrow a welder though. Ohh and learn how to weld :-p

It's designed to hold camping gear, which is pretty light.

My first concern by just looking at it is what holds it back from lateral movement?

Oh and motorcity, if you took the time to learn to weld from a buddy or neighbor, you could make this rack for less than the 75 bucks it's sold for. Not to mention be able to make other things for your jeep and/or repair items that break out on the trail, which in itself is more valuable than any savings you could get by purchasing this rack.

If you were local I'd be more than happy to teach you what I know about welding.

WELCOME TO NAXJA! Not everyone here is a moron. maybe waxer just had a bad day. It's easy to be a dick when your not face to face. For the price and the name you cant go wrong. Coleman makes quality products. Like was said before it's just for light weight use. I would like to see it be a little wider and maybe a better mounting system. If you want to spend a little more check out the SURCO rack. I think I got mine from Summit, Not a bad price and ultra fast shipping (if I remember correctly free shipping). Lets see the pics.

thanks i actually just ordered last week a video from northern tool on mig welding, i have welders i can borrow from brother and cousin. Neither one of them can lay a good looking weld to save their life, not sure i want to "learn"
from them lol. Hopefully the video is worth it, i am thinking i saw a welding book at lowes or homedepot, i should go back and see if they still sell that.

thanks for the offer.

Practice practice practice.

Clean the work good, ensure a good ground, and learn puddle control.

I learned a lot from books, but most of it was by a fellow 4 wheeler who mentored me, which is why I have no problem passing the knowledge along like it was to me.

Hit me up anytime if you have any questions.

I have a Yakima Megawarrior. It looks as if the Coleman rack mounts in a similiar way. I like the yakima but one problem I've had is with the rack shifting from side to side on the trail. Granted this is loaded with a 33" tire, Hi-lift and a crapload of camping gear, but it's something to think about.

To keep this from happening couldn't you drill some holes and bolt it down? Sorry, I dont know how these are mounted.

Looks pretty nice for a 'strap-on' operation.

Make your own. You own Jeep, your kinda expected to join the brotherhood of people too dumb to buy stuff they can make. :laugh3:

An old bed frame, some expanded metal mesh I found laying in trash pile and a couple pieces of square tubing out of the garage. Thule gutter feet from a friend's ski rack on his exploder. The black paint was the most costly. 3 cans about 4 bucks a pieces. And wa-la instant rack.

Overall i'm happy with it. I paid like 80 bucks and it'll fit a spare and/or camping stuff If there is a large group. As long as you know it's limitations it's perfect.

good rack, check those mounts like to come loose. i would say no spare up there, i havent even bothered trying doesnt seem stout being on roof rails ut from cross bars on gutter mounts it would probably be fine.
heres a pic.

great for 75 bucks! but if it was a 150 dollar rack or more i would have not even wasted my time.
