Re: NAC Lots-O- Posts Thread-Part Deux

This is what I need to do when I go into a parts store.

"I need calipers and pads for a '74 Jeep Wagoneer, rotors and hubs from a '77 Ford F150, rear shoes and wheel cylinders from an '87 Cherokee with the D44 axle."
It all goes into a '99.

lmao...:rof: aint that a bitch!

A little bit, but it is pretty fun to tell them you need brakes for your car, and list off all these different obscure vehicles that don't really go together. I think I should do a crown vic disc swap just so I can have another car in there.

theyre gonna love talking to you there. haha

Ha ya, I'm sure they do. I'm waiting for someone to ask me what kind of car I have, or tell me they don't work together.

I'm also sure they love me when they can't find a part in their computer, and I have to tell them to try under another year until we find it, and we basically have to search.

oh they love it when you make them actually work for their pay.. i love when half the people behind the counter have no clue how a brake system even works.. hasta

Re: NAC Lots-O- Posts Thread-Part Deux

I was at a used parts place asking about a WJ 8.25 I guessed 99+ because of the body style... The guy at the counter said dana 35 or 44a. I said its a Chrysler 8.25. he said they dont have those in that Jeep. I said You have one right there in your lot with it.

so I left, turned out it was a 2000 so maybe they didnt use the 8.25 until 2000 in the WJ... Guy was a pecker head

I went into advanced auto one time (30 minute drive, and encountered traffic to get back on the Cape. There are only 2 bridges to get on cape, and in summer it turns to hell). I called the guy and asked if they had any inner axle seals for a '77 F150, as the ones I got from Jeff's Bronco graveyard were incorrect, and I couldn't finish my gear install until I had them in.

The guy tells me he does, and I'm amazed because I can't get them anywhere, I know they are pretty obscure for that vehicle. I get there and he hands me a hub seal. I tell him no, and go to start explaining it, and the guy is like "no no, I know what your talking about," offended that I'm trying to explain it to him like he is an idiot and doesn't know what he is talking about. He gives me another thing, and I'm like no, listen, and I explain to him what it is.

He tells me he isn't familiar with solid front axles, and asks the other guy working there if he has ever hear of that part, to which the other guy says no. I'm like well sorry guys, but just because you haven't hear of it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. He starts talking about CV shafts, and I keep telling him this axle doesn't have CV shafts, but u-joints.

The guy searches a little more, and comes up like "alright, I found the part you are looking for, but we don't have it. The name of the part you are looking for is the "inside CV shaft seal." After telling him for the last time it DOES NOT HAVE A FRIGGEN CV SHAFT, I finally just left, and proceeded to sit in 45 minutes of traffic.

Re: NAC Lots-O- Posts Thread-Part Deux

No, I had to wait for Jeff's Bronco graveyard to finally send me the correct parts.

First set of axle seals they sent me were not only incorrect, they were different than each other. I was happy that they exchanged them, because I ordered them in March, and finally went to install them in July. Second set worked, but I fubared one trying to install them. I called and ordered 2 more, and gave them the exact dimensions of the seals, and I'm pretty sure they sent me the first ones again, because they were both different. Then I finally got the correct ones, and I have one extra now.

Talk to EricsXJ he did the conversion to his XJ in that book he wrote, and he talks about how to do it without the kit. As far as the roof rails...no :( :( :( I really wish I did though.

EDIT: Oh and that site is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!

Re: NAC Lots-O- Posts Thread-Part Deux

I just found a place to get a liberty axle (8.25) with discs for under 400. That may be my rear disk conversion.

is it already geared too!?? or is that asking too much :roll:

pray to the junkyard gods that one shows up!

Ya, probably was confusing.

I ordered axle seals when I was collecting parts to build my HP44 last year.
Ordered seals in March, they sat until I got to the point of my build when I needed them in July. I then discovered they were the wrong seals.
I called Jeff's in July, and they let me exchange them, even though it was months after I ordered them.
The new seals were correct, but I messed one up.
I called again, and gave them the dimensions of the seals I needed. I received the wrong seals again.
This was when I went to advanced autos.
I then finally got the correct seals from Jeff's Bronco Graveyard, and I finished everything last September.

Re: NAC Lots-O- Posts Thread-Part Deux

This thread has been dying more and more each day. It is so sad. So I started spot cleaning my engine bay today before the girlfriend came over today. I just got around where the cone filter is, and the valve cover
