After The State of thread in the Member's Forum, I was just curious how thick the population of Athiest Republicans is. What the hell, I'd like to know if you're a Athiest Democrat. If this isn't your cup of tea, then don't bother responding.

I understand that this is a rather personal issue with many folks, but it's not with me, so don't get on to me for being curious. If you don't feel comfortable talking about it, just pass this thread by.

And for you "believers" that just can't stay away, there is a poll option for you too.

You left out of the poll any choice for agnostics (not atheists, but not convinced there is a God / supreme being), and for those who believe there is some kind of God (or gods, in the case of pantheists) but who don't necessarily love Him/Her/It/Them

There's two things I hate in this world. People who are intollerant of other people's religons.......and Agnostics.

I hate undecideds. And I only added the Supreme Being option to humor the religious folks.

You also forgot us Deists. As a Deist, I believe there is some sort of Supreme Intelligence observing our known Universe, but I do not find a need to complicate my life with religious observances, nor the need to go to a special place once a week to compare clothing.

My idea of "worship" is to use the skills and talents God (for lack of a better name) gave me, rather than to let them "rot on the vine." If I can use them to better myself, that is good. If I can use them to better Mankind, that is best.

However, I do not feel the need to complicate myself with the labels Christian, Catholic, Baptist, or anything similar - Deist will do nicely.

Further, I do not fit in any of the political affiliations you have given - I am best described as a "Conservative Libertarian." I oppose most government controls, government intrusion into personal lives or business practices where a practical aim is not made or intended, and most measures relating to taxation. I also feel that "public service" should not be a means to get rich (read: overpaid congresscritters and instant pensions.) If people are going to be independently wealthy by the time they go into politics, they just don't need to get paid - call me cranky.

So, my option isn't listed either - "Deist Conservative Libertarian." Therefore, I cannot answer your poll. This will have to do.

Realize, the intent wasn't to try to find out how many folks don't fit the "mold" I have provided. My main intent was to find out how many folks there are out there like me. Plus, I just know that people love a poll, so I inserted a catch-all for the religious types.

If I were taking a census, I would have to create thousands of these threads with all the various combinations of freakiness.

Yeah - a good part of my point is that it is possible to believe in a "God" (for lack of a better name) without having to be religious about it.

A favourite philosophy question - "Where does God live?" The answer can be found with a study of astrophysics and quantum mechanics...
