Just bought a Dana 44 out of a 87 Cherokee.

Per my post from 2-3 months ago: there is still 1 more dana 44 axle in a dark red burgandy 87' laredo at James Autowreckers. It has 160K miles, auto with 3.54 gears, looks to be in good shape eventhough the xj looks like it was in a rollover. This is the 1 I saw on 2 other occasions within a year period or so that I've been going to that yard. Ask for Brad and tell him the Big guy sent you. :D I told him I'm in the cherokee club and people should be coming his way soon. You should be able to get it for $250-300 if you play Brad right. He made me go looking around the yard for another dana 44 xj before he would pull the 1 for Nate because he just got it in and it still had the engine in it. I was  to see the dana 44 in a very clean xj limited as I came into the yard, both dana 44's have limited slips in them too. Get it quick, I want to see this in 1 of my xj bros rigs and not in this yard anymore, come on guys 1 of you wants 1. Cannot beat the price. Yes that's right at James autowreckers in Antelope off Antelope rd 2 yards down from J&W who want $850 for a dana 44 xj axle in there yard less than 100 yards away!!! Jeep is in the right fenced yard when you come into the place behind the parking lot fence. Sorry for the long post, but I hope to make someone really
:D :D :D

I have a Detroit, that'll fit your D44, for sale. :dunno:

How much is it? My bro is looking to get the locker if it is for a good price. He still doesn't have the jeep in his possesion and we already got the dana 44, I couldn't pass that 1 up. Do you know who could set it up with the gears locally, he wants 4.88's? Is it a soft full detroit, not a lunchbox locker like a lock-rite, right? Let me or Nate know.
thanks Keven, hope you don't stay away from the xj/wheeling scene too long, where are you moving to?

Thanks Phil, I know I saw that thread not to long ago. Did Aaron make arrangements yet with you to get the dana 30? He's said he would bring the xj up to Sac early this coming week. I was hoping he could bring the axle up too as he said it is in Napa at your folks house I believe. :dunno:

Thanks Phil :)

I'll drop the price to $400 for anyone local.

We'll be on the road for 2-3 years and probably settle in western Oregon. I've got some parts already and will start building another XJ when settle down.

What does it go for new and what does it include? Does it include a master rebuild kit, or does this typically come with a ring gear kit? I don't mean to talk for my bro, but I'm just researching and looking out for him. ;)

Master install kit is purchased with gears.

I paid $525 for it a year ago and I've seen them advertised for nearly $600.

That sounds like a good price on the detroit Kevin. When are you leaving? Are you going to wonder the earth for 2-3 yrs in a motor home or what? :D
I like Oregon, I pickup an xj a over a year ago in Salem from Sac after winning the auction on ebay. I got a clean 95' SE with 112K for $3K. I wish I would have held on to it now that I'm do into xj's and my 98' zj is down with a bad tranny. The I could get another aw4 very easily and cheap. The 98' zj tranny was only in it that 1 year what I gather and is not really strong.
