Just Another XJ on tons, coilovers, 42's, etc. Build

Don't worry too much about the FE... I reviewed math for 45 minutes and spent about an hour familiarizing myself with the supplied reference manual and didn't have any troubles on the exam. Not to mention, my 9 semesters of classes were spread out over 6 years and I wasn't a good student...

Hey Justin...it's Jason, this thing looks awesome! It's come along way since that flop on Helldorado. I need to come over and check this thing out some time, I bought a set of 60's to put under my Cherokee and need some inspiration :).

I just replied to the D300 thread on pirate about your VSS issue, but now that I think of it that may only apply to OBO I stuff. Here's that thread that come from though, around post #60 or so is the start of the discussion on the VSS:http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1023104&page=5

Aaaaand....an update...with pics! :D

So far i've:

-Nearly finished up the boatside tubes

-About gotten the radiator mounted as shown in the pics. Still has some work needed done to finish things up (more mounting tabs, make it removable, etc.)

-Cut out the floor (though there is a little more to cut out)

-Got the cowl cut down and welded/blended to the tube

This weekend I'll crank on it for a bit since I don't have any school next week since its Thanksgiving Break. Hopefully i'll have my fuel stuff sometime that week so that I can get the fuel plumbing all mounted and try my damnedest to rig up power with a battery and fire the motor! :D

It's amazing that was a Cherokee at one point in time.

Nice job on the radiator mount, looks badass.

Little update...worked on it some yesterday:

Got my fuel stuff in, thanks to Tim at LII!

All the fuel stuff layed out...$$$

Getting the Trick Flow Fuel Filter mocked and tacked in place:

Some other stuff thats going on alongside...

Doubler stuff getting dealt with somewhat...

Well its been a little while...passed all my classes AND the FE

So...this break I haven't gotten near as much done as planned but have gotten some done.

Got a little done on the rear, some more bracing and making the radiator removable:

Worked on the exhaust some as well. Cut and reworked the exhaust headers to point the exit straight down instead of down and back:

A little engine enamel to pretty them up some:
002-3.jpg

Hacked up the old exhaust and got it started, it wraps down and around the front of the oil pan. Just need to order a muffler and a new CAT:

Also go started on the interior dash and console:

Got a mock doubler setup in to see clearance of things as well, now just need to get the real one in!

I just love how it is still has its old unibody. Keepin it original. lol Are you going to plate the top of the unirails or somethin?

check out northwest fab for a 3 lever cable shifter to handle the 2 transfer cases. they work nice.

looking good. super anxious to see this done. cant you get to work already?!

I'm getting to work damn you!

Probably not, though there will be an aluminum floor so you won't see any of it.

About 12 steps ahead of ya :D

Going to be doing my own cable shifter setup at about 1/2 the cost (look at Vetteboy or Timmay's builds), already had a freind who machined the knobs for handles :greensmok

Love this build. Its the only one I follow in AdvFab.

Congrats on the FE, my Wife passed her PE several years ago, and I know how big of a deal it is.

Thanks, its a relief to not have to take it this semester, especially since its the day after our senior design projects are due.

Well...with the end of senior design looming next friday and a new(er) Jeep, time has been rather scarce, but I have managed to get SOME stuff done :D

Got my exhaust done and routed. Still need to pull it back out and get it fully welded:

Got my fuel cell straps made so the cell is now finally secure (in case your wondering I drilled out all those holes in the straps):

As well got some more done with the dash/interior. Got some bracing done and mounted the stock tranny shifter...work perfectly:

Last but not least, got my battery box made up. Wanted to go with an odyessy battery instead of an optima but for $22, the Optima was in the budget.

Hey progress. :D really really need to come see this thing up close! After talkin with ya on saturday I really need to get work done on my rig. But still paying for it is killin me right now.

Didnt see it mentioned anywhere. have you determined a final belly height and wheelbase for it?

Final wheelbase will be in the 110" range, probably more like 108-110".

As far as the belly goes, not really 100% sure right now. I'll have to wait until I start charging the Struts to have the correct up/down travel and then I'll know.

The belly (complete flat belly) at full bump is ~17" from the ground, and the top of the chassis 67.5" from the ground (I'm 6' 1" and the top of the chassis is about even with my nose). My guesstimate would be that at final ride height...the belly will be somewhere around 23-24" from the ground, therefore the top of the chassis being 73-74" from the ground.

Oh...and as far as updates; I got the passenger seat mounted (It only took 8 fukking hours!)

But graduation is in three weeks (still hasn't sunk in)...so I'm gonna be relatively busy until then :D
