Just Another XJ on tons, coilovers, 42's, etc. Build

I'll post up another update here soon...after mounting up the D300 to complete the doubler, I ran into a few fitment issues.

Had to redo part of my rear crossmember (i.e. cut out sections) to clearance the rear output housing and the shift rail caps that stick out of the back.

I've got another, far trickier situation with the speedo gear that going to cause me some trouble...

It's not gonna be street legal is it? I'd just make a blockoff plate for the speedo gear port, or chop up a VSS and pump it full of RTV and use it as a blockoff plate.

So Justin sent me a pm yesterday telling me that he just wanted to let everyone know that the build is still going, quite a bit more work has been done and it hasn't just gone sitting around. He will try and update whenever he gets red-lettered again or will have someone post up pics. More parts have been ordered and will be promptly installed (cable shifters, CNC cutting brakes and braking system, etc.)

Alright, so I'm going to attempt to update this...

You'll have to excuse the postings a little...copying it right from my Pirate build thread...

Might have to take ya up on some of that...just need to do some measuring first. As far as the shifters...now that I have my cables (well 2 of the 3) in place, i'll feel more confident giving you measurments for the shifters since I didn't want to completely screw it up by kind of guestimating.

Well onto some updates :smokin:

Got the boatsides "done". Still need to do a hair bit of cutting, fully weld it up, and dimple the holes. The boatsides will be covered in 1/2" UHMW later on in case anyone was wondering.

Working on getting the rest of the driver's floor done:

Now what you see in this picture should help...ohh...get the motor fired in the next couple weeks! Its two orders, one from Delcity and another place I would highly recommend, VTEWarehouse. VTEWarehouse had by far the best pricing on BUS bars, covers, and more. In the picture are two kill switches (one of which I painted).

And last but not least, and overall shot of how she sits currently:

Ooooook....UPDATE TIME! (I actually had to go back and look at what my last update was to see what progress I showed last )

So here's how the fuel cell plumbing turned out...
IMAG0312.jpg

So one reason for a lack of updates...I've been moving into a new place over the last month - month and a half. As well...my commute went from ~70miles round trip...now its ~120 miles round trip, so needless to say i've lost a little more time during the week :shaking:

On the trailer getting moved into the new place:

Rolled into the new garage:

Now there was an issue getting it off the trailer...it came off wrong and a little damage was done (nothing very big).

It ripped my frame side panhard mount off, driver's side LCA mount off and LCA apart, as well as tweak the driver's side upper ORI mount. All these were just hard tacks...so just need to get them lined up again and get them fully burned in.

Before I got her moved...I got the 14B shave and gear setup done.

RuffStuff cover with TMR shave kit:

I did break a bolt of in the bottom plate...not even going to go into that nightmare...but got it fixed.

Now my issues with the Ruffstuff cover i'll mention. I did get this cover for "free" since I won a gift cert to ruffstuff some years ago...so this cover is a couple years old so i'm sure they've gotten much better since now. However...the fitment on mine wasn't that great overall. I had to machine out some holes in order to get all the screw holes lined up. As well...I had to shave the ends of it a LOT in order to sink the cover portion itself in to allow me ANY sort of chance of being able to get screws in after welding (i.e. the weld would not allow for a bolt head to sit flush.

Some pics to show what I mean...you can see how far off they are.

Yeah...I know the welds on the cover arent the greatest...but its welded inside and out. The bolts holes made it so I had to try and run a really small bead. :shaking:

So I redid the front ORI mounts to beef them up. As well a full cage will be done as well as couple more tubes to make sure everything is structurally sound. There are splices in there now...but there will be in the future. The tape shows where tubes will be placed as plans are now.

Thats where I'm at for now...more to come soon :grinpimp:

Another update:

Got this pretty little gem from Matt this weekend, time to work on getting it mounted:

IMAG0358.jpg

Got the engine bracing in and done and two more bracing tubes. As well...my frame side panhard mount ripped off (only a few tacks holding it in place) when moving the buggy. So I went ahead and got it back on and beefed up a bit.

Shouldn't be having ANY problems with it now :D

Got in an order of non-insulated butt splices and lots of heat shrink...so some wiring work to get things shortened up, loomed and DONE is next.
