jk axles into my cherokee!!! need advice!!!

thanks for all the advise guys!! after crunching all the pros and cons, i decided to commit to the swap for a couple reasons.... so for 600 bucks i got it all!! axles, brakes "discs for the back", driveshafts, swaybars and mounts, track bar, drag link, ect. all less than 5000 miles on it.. no rust at all so in very good condition!!! my truck needs brakes front and back, bearings and so on... quicky adding up to the cost of what i spent!!

im gonna take this as a learning experience and just enjoy doing the swap!! sure it may not be the perfect setup but im sure ill learn something along the way!! never really been a bolt on kinda guy lmao i like to monster garage $#!T

does anyone know if im gonna run into any problems with the track bar and drag link install??? i know theres a few companies that offer adjustable ones...

for the price get an 8.8 and a junkyard D44HD (3/4ton) rebuild those. you will be a lot happier later on.

No offense but you are out of your mind to do this swap. I can see the rear axle...i guess. But you can easily find a XJ D44 and rebuild it for 600. As far as the front you are only gaining HP or LP, which you could nearly do for free with all the D30's for sale. The time and material needed so outway any pros. Save your money, swap a C8.25 and a HP D30 for now an throw a locker in the 8.25. (all under $600 prob). You should also be thinking about breakage, your putting in axle that done have the cheap/abundance and XJ stock axle.

The JK case will bolt into a AW4, speedo wont work though.

haha most of the time i am outta my mind!!
as mentioned above i have committed myself to this project!! thanks for taking the time to post your thoughts! keep them comming!!

on another note.... driveshafts!! a SYE and after market driveshaft is gonna be installed in the near future but im trying to figure out which yoke i should be swapping out?? i think it would be easier to change the yokes on the axles???

which of the two d shaft options is favored?? the jk shafts and yokes or the xj shafts and yokes??

TeraFlex sells conversion yokes at $100 each. That is pricey. Since you are having custom driveshafts built, you don't necessarily need to change the yokes. You will be changing the yoke on the back of the transfer case anyway with the SYE, so then you can have the driveshaft made to match up to the yokes you already have.

On that note, I will need to purchase a yoke for my JK44 rear since it is missing. If anyone knows any options other than TeraFlex please let me know!

rut row....has no one here seen project low wagon?
the pinion on a jk dana 30 is twice the size of that on an xj d30 so there is quite a bit to gain....the rear axle shouldnt be that big of a deal. get the right yoke and weld on some perched/shock tabs
the front will require a little more finesse
look here and talk to rock yacht he's a helluva nice guy

Good post. and welcome to the internet.

good to know, but i think i got a NP 231??.... i think they wanna know that when you order a SYE.. but im probably wrong..

You have a 231 in the XJ (or 242 if it has the full-time option).

JK's have a 241 and the one you grabbed has the same 2.72 to 1 ratio and no way to hook up your speedometer to it.

So I'd keep yours.

i atually didnt grab it... but the thought has crossed my mind. correct me if im wrong but i believe the nv241 dosent use a slip yoke?? eliminating the need to buy one?? and i wouldnt need to convert the yokes cause they would all be the same... not to mention a brand new t case!!

i also found a thread on here that a guy did JK axles in to a WJ and was able to use the speed senor on the jk axles?? givin this is a WJ not an XJ but made me go hmmmmm:smoker:

This looks good, everything is an upgrade. You get virtualy brand new housings, gears, brand brakes all the way around, disc rear, LSD  extra jk parts to pwn or trade, a slight upgrade in gear ratio and a cool project..thats a steal, then part out the stuff you unblot and buy jk take off wheels and tires cheap. What kind of lift are putting on that thing?? One step at time...The speedo is the hardest part, ring gear/wheel speed sensor in the hub?? Someone has figured that out for sure??!!. Looking forward to the build thread XFACTOR. I want pics...
