Jeepspeed wiring harness

Jump This

Just another minion!
What are you guys doing about your wiring?
Is there someone out there that produces a harness just for the Jeepspeed type rigs?
I'm dealing with a wire reduction program on my rock crawler and thought you all just might have the answers I'm looking for.

BTW what is your top speed on the smooth flats anyway?

I threw out Hotwire Auto. Did you check with them? They are converting our 92 to only a 4 wire hookup and removing Everything that doesnt make the engine run, charge or start. No gauges, no lights, no extra anything. And adding in a new fuse block and relay panel and making the harness long enough for the ECU, Fuse/relay, and CEL, to mount under the dash.

I talked to Chris there. $600 plus is a bit out of the budget. I'm betting that there is someone who has done this a lot and can whip out a harness a bit quicker than Hotwire can. Hopefully making it a bit more affordable.

James cut our harness down and had it back in the car again in about three hours. He cut out probably 70% of all of the wiring in the car. We are keeping the factory gauges, and the majority of wiring goes to them. I was surprised just how easy the job was and would not be afraid to tackle it on my own next time.

I think I've already narrowed down the harness enough to be able to use the factory guages. Problem is, I'm not going to use them...so now I need to see how to wire in a tack using the factory wire as well as temp guages and adding a few additional items.
I supose I was just looking for the easy out. Writing checks is easier and quicker than chasing wire.
Not having a readable schematic didn't (doesn't) help either.

I did it all myself and I can tell you $600 is not a bad deal.

I fully agree. For what They give you for that 600$. But if your keeping the gauges, fuse block, lights, etc, then its prolly a bit high.

But in our case a stand-alone 4 wire hook up stock ECU is basically what we are getting and its with all new fuse block and relay panel. So we wont be chasing issues with corrosion on terminals that might cause a issue in the block.

I have been using the stock wiring. Race the Jeepspeed series with it. What has been added to it is a map sensor adjustor, Wideband AFR gauge, better injectors. With the engine work that has been done we have been clocked at a 92+ mph but our racing is not about speed its is more about the torque.

We run an Automatic, but use a shift kit from RA designs. I have lock up switch and controller switch tapped into the system.

I try to keep everything simple incase there are field repairs and I can them swap out stuff easily..

We need to have working tail lights, headlights, brake lights.. Decided to just use what was there instead of taking time to rebuild.

I've got to count my pennies right now so I'll be taking care of the wiring myself. I hadn't planned on getting into that until next summer and I'm running short of time.
OH well, I think I'm used to delays.

Still....Thanksgiving or bust!

How fast can it go.
That's how fast they go in the flat stretches.
We pegged the speedo(85MPH) on a lake bed about a third of the way to Reno(7118 truck, long bed MJ). Derrick kept his foot to the floor until the truck stopped accelerating. Neither of us was paying attention to the instruments or GPS at that point. We were looking for the far end of the lake bed(it was after dark)'cause we didn't want to roll into the scrub at high speed if we missed the course markers.

Playing with the tracking sites, it's not unusual to see 1700 class wagons logging 50-60 MPH in some sections of the course.

I was doing some research on a complete harness replacement for Nate's MJ, since he caught it on fire last week.

We're going with a harness from Rebel Wire. $200 will get you a 18 circuit harness, labeled like the expensive ones, fuse block, etc. You can get a smaller harness for less, if you don't need additional circuits. Keep the engine harness separate, wire what you need for lights, gauges, etc.

Lots of harness options out there if you want to take the stock stuff out and replace it, but at least Rebel is american made by a guy who answers the phone when you have questions.

That's the way I would go if the only thing left on my XJ was the drivetrain.
