JeepSpeed Style With Coilovers and Long-Arms

Army, military, Jeep Willy's... whatever you like. =) I used to be a Marine myself, so I'd love to see Hugo's rig. Still haven't run any trails yet with this rig, and I'm thinking I still might not until I get the cage in to prevent any unwanted flex cracks... you just can't get those to go away, you know? Lord knows it's been tempting...

Frame stiffeners... Then you can wheel before ya get the cage in :D

Marines didn't do the star. Most Jeep era USMC vehicles used yellow lettering instead of white.

As promised, here are some preliminary pictures. The wheel company sent out the wrong size wheels (center hole was too small to accomodate the Ford 9" hubs), so instead of this sitting on 35's it is currently on 33's for sizing and just to let it sit on the ground. It's NICE to see those 9's under there!!!

Sorry for the quality, I took these with my Blackberry "camera"...

Jeezus....... $$$$$$$........

Those axles are saweet...... Jeep Speed for sure. Gonna suck in the rocks though I gotta think.......

Definitely a very original build going on. Not often you see those combinations of parts/build plans coming together.

I still say do the retired forest service logo....... :D

Yeah I've done the rock thing before and it's not really for me. I'll have 35's on there which will help with clearance, and the 9" in the front has the Currie "high clearance" option as well, but obviously with the bottom-side truss from hell I'm losing a ton of it all around. If I pick good lines I figure I'll be okay on 5-6 rated trails, probably won't do anything above that for climbing. I really just love that I'll finally be able to JUMP. That's how I got into XJ's and off-roading in the first place- took my stocker in 1996 over a 4' birm around a local park at about 40 mph without knowing the other side dropped down about 8'. Didn't totally trash the Jeep, surpisingly, but I've wanted to set up an XJ that is actually built to do that which is what I will hopefully be achieving here. :)

Here's the article that cinched how I wanted to do my build- mine's a bit different obviously, but I liked the concept.

Well,...since you asked! :patriot:

Not much to brag about, I figured since the Heep was red I would add some gold (Yellow) for the Marine Corps colors. No plan really just started painting, anything I don't like the looks of I just paint it black again. I plan to make the safari rack yellow, and the sliders, and not sure about doing the rear bumper and swing-out. I'm not sure if you can make out the badging, but it is all USMC, the wife got it for me off of www.grunt.com, that is how this whole thing got started, I thought well if I have the USMC logos all over it, it should scream Marine Corps. lol.

Well enough showboating, Semper Fi!

And thanks for the replies! I'm looking forward to meeting up for some runs! I need to get my USMC license plate too, Hugo... =) Maybe then I'll stop getting speeding tickets LOL

Good luck with that. I'm suprised cspd doesnt pull each other over! This town(and h.p. And woodland pd) are ridiculous about tickets for every little stupid thing!!!! Don't ask em to figure out a crime tho!! :soapbox:

but ON topic. Jeep looks good. Just tell em to get some protection on your fenders from those parts drooped over!

I love that link. I thought about buying that for my GF and throwing my old lift on it... =)

It was almost done yesterday, I went over and they had it on the RTI ramp. It was at about an 800, and was rubbing on (of all things) the horn behind the bumper. So that needs to be relocated. LOL They made a pretty sweet bumper for me, it's like a lightweight Trailready style tied into the engine cage... I really like it.

So yeah! Should be done tonight and then pics again. =D The T4x4 guys are apparently friends with the guy who owns "Crawl" magazine, so they're trying to get it featured in there. I really don't care since the project isn't complete yet, but I guess that would be cool. They did go a little higher with the lift than I originally anticipated, raising it to about a 6" lift (put longer shackles in the rear and added a leaf to the rubi stack). Not a huge deal for me since I do want to go jumping it and will most likely need more uptravel than I had planned for, and I'm used to a 6" lift what with my old XJ. At least this one has the anti-rock in front and air bumps in the rear to prevent body roll more than my old setup.

Apparently there's rear axle seal leak and the rear 9 sounds a little funky, so I'll probably need someone to crack that open and adjust the backlash or whatever. Tanner guys are too busy this week to do it, so if you know someone good at it with good prices, I'm open to suggestions. Thanks!

Here are the preliminary shots!

Body roll is minimal, big dead spot in the steering that I need to figure out... but hell, I've got 35" tires so that's kind of expected. Any thoughts on how to tighten up the steering...?

Running the rear air bumps about 1" from the contact plates with 90 lbs of pressure. The rear shocks are 2.0" Fox remote res running 100 lbs.

Front coilovers are 2.0" Fox with remote res running 150 lbs of pressure, with the spring rates at 250 and 300 lbs. The front rides at about 7" lift right now- I'm hoping it'll settle about an inch lower... if not I've got about 5" they can be adjusted down in height so I can just lower it a bit. The shop that did my work said I can swap out the springs for other rates for free, by the way. Also, the back ended up about 6" lift from an add-a-leaf to the rubi pack and some longer shackles. The shop made that call to try and protect the Bushwackers.

Any recommendations on rates for the suspension? I want to emphasize downtravel, but know I probably need at least 6" uptravel for mild jumping.

Oh, and the shop threw it on the RTI ramp and said I've got 4.5' of wheel travel. =D

So here are the basic pics from my Blackberry:
