Jeeps dont seem to like high RPM's

I've never even thought to try and max it out in the jeep. She's 20 years old forchristsakes! Does well for evasives and emergency merges (seems to be most of them around here). Drivers here seem to have a problem with the concept of entering the highway at highway speeds.

Oh, and my (totalled, not my fault...) 97 3.9L 2wd 5spd long bed dakota sport didn't hit any speed limiter until 120... I took it there once, and near there one other time... didn't feel too bad to be honest. That thing was light and quick, I could chirp the tires without trying, and often lost the tail end around corners even at low speeds, it got better mileage and felt better altogether when loaded.
I had a '95 2wd Dak w/Cali emissions. Downhill from Thousand Oaks into Camarillo, it wouldn't do more than 105. No sudden loss of power, just no more go.

I have only taken mine beyond 4000 RPM a few times, today I took it up to around 4900 RPM momentarily just to see what would happen and I could tell that it was well beyond the ol' XJ's comfort level...I don't think I'll take it up that high again, it's a little too much for the old beast. It's is nearly 20 years old though, so I mean...that could have something to do with it.

You guys and your young'n jeeps! 22 years on mine... but the old man is gonna be all young again once I get it running!

97 and 95 are two very different years... and I don't know if mine had the cali emissions... All I know is that the dak's speedo stopped at 120 (numerically, and the needle stopped there too).
