Jeep was almost stolen!

This past Sat night, my wife & I went out, when we got back to the jeep I noticed that my steering column was busted and they tryed to screwdriver the ignition. But when AAA sent out a locksmith he said there was nothing that he could do. And since the steering lock was busted along with the ignition I had to tow it home. Thank god for AAA plus!!! it was 65 miles from home! I contacted my insurance company but need to get quotes, anybody from the Los Angeles area (Pref. the So Bay Area) know where I can get quotes on something like this?? I think the whole steering column is going to have be replaced!

Thanks for the help!

well, I don't know anything other than the fact that the steering column WILL have to be replaced.

grab one from a junkyard and go to town, it's easy

If it was mine ... first, I would go to a dealer a scope out the parts and check availability and pricing ... I've been getting fairly good discounts on parts at Don-A-Vee in Placentia---talk to Jason.

If the OEM parts are available and since it's insurance work, I would simply have it towed to a dealer ... let them give you a quote for parts and installation. That way you are covered by DC for workmanship and AAA to make sure you're satisfied with the outcome.

BTW: A few months ago I was awakened at 4:00am to the sound of my XJ's factory alarm going off while sitting in my driveway... they got as far as breaking the fixed glass and tried to open the rear pass door -- boy did they get a BIG surprise.

I don't know if they were after my Jeep or Alpine --- why the rear door ? ... doesn't make sense.
