just fyi I had to replace my tcu when bought the xj and got one on ebay out of a manual trans xy that had never been pluged in. Evedently they put the tcu's in the manual trans xj's and just didnt have a harness going to them so don't pass by a manual trans xj when looking.

haha thats perfect. thanks for the insight. i know of a scrap yard around here that has a 94 on the lot. but the guy running the place is clueless and will prob ask $200 for the thing.

That sounds more like someone converted it to an automatic. The wiring harness for a manual setup doesn't even have a connector for the TCU.

i also read in the manual that the transmission could send an error code that could be read by a DBII tester. is this what your referring to as a trans computer?

The trans computer can set OBDII codes. Your check engine light isn't on right?
