jeep compass problems

As stated warranty is up. Our dealership was told by chrysler we are only allowed to replace CVTs as an assembly and not to even attempt repairing one.....must be top secret haha. Price from Chrysler is through the roof so you'd definatly be better off ifnding a used one.

I think that's the general consensus with most of the CVT transmissions out there. I work for Nissan, and if we have any CVT trans problems, rebuild is out of the question.

Yeah, I am a Chrysler Jeep tech, we can't rebuild either. The funny part about that though is that Chrysler sends us to training where we completely tear down to a bare case and rebuild the CVT unit, but Jatco wont release parts for us to rebuild them. Oh well, it was fun and I got paid to do it.

comanche and tattoo, i just PMed yall. to anyone else who sees this, we are doing a swap for a junkyard tranny tomorrow. any and all pertinent information that would help me do this easier would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks in advance guys!

Best advice to give is to completely flush or replace the transmission cooler and lines. Parts wash and some compressed air is probably the easiest way, or you can pump some fresh CVT fluid through the lines until it comes out clean.

Have fun, and be safe.

Thanks for the heads up Bryan. we weren't able to install the new one because apparently the one from a '07 2.4 and the one from an 08 2.4 are different. unfortunately, there was no way to know this until we took the old one out yesterday. hopefully the junkyard i got the other one from has the right one!
