Someone please motivate me to get this pulled out from underneath my trailer project! I bought the back half of an '88 SWB Comanche for an off road trailer and it came with a Dana 44 for rolling stock. I have a brand new trailer axle I'm going to replace it with. I'd keep it for myself, but I already installed an XJ D44 under my rig.
Details:
MJ Dana 44
3.54 gears
Trac-loc differential
Complete drum to drum
Includes stock U-bolt plates w/ shock mounts
Weight sensing rear brake proportioning valve included if you want it
Proportioning valve pivot point on diff cover included, but connecting rod is missing
Most of the hard lines are missing
No e-brake cables
The Comanche this came from sustained significant enough front end damage that it was considered totaled. The axle has been sitting idle for at least two years. I did not own the donor vehicle, so I can't tell you how well it was maintained and I can't guarantee its current state of road worthiness anymore than a 22 year old junkyard axle could be guaranteed. I drained the oil yesterday and it was a mix of perfectly fresh looking gear oil and black gear oil. I'm guessing the Trac-loc clutch material that had worn off in the oil all settled to the bottom as it had been sitting so long. I also believe it may have a slow pinion seal leak due to some grimy build-up around the seal.
I'll be listing this on Craig's List for $300. Here on
, I'm asking $250 for black names and $200 if you're in the red. I'm not an MJ expert by any means so please let me know if there is any MJ specific info I'm leaving out that would be of concern to an MJ owner looking at putting this axle under their rig. Thanks!
Here's some pics from before I bought it. It's been sitting covered on the concrete pad next to my garage for the past year now.
And here's what it's being pulled from
I also have the rear driveshaft from this MJ and the bastard leaf packs it is currently sitting on if you're interested.
