Jeep 2500 Conversion order #2

Its colored plastic. Not a painted on color. This same thing came up last time and it always makes me chuckle. They were $6.00/ea, I can't even get a burger, small fry and drink for that at the drive thru, so you really have to put it into perspective as to what your getting. Honestly its the first time I heard of them fading out of all the ones we got on the first order. I do remember someone sugesting that the use of colored bulbs (red/amber) make them "look" better, and not as pink.
Another thought might be to use some LED bulbs if the "fading" is caused by excessive heat from the stock bulbs???

Its a good idea to use LED's for the bottom red lights anyway, as there is a tremendous amount of bleed through. The cops behind you wont be happy about that. I ordered some amber incandacents for the turn signals that faded on the ones i installed months ago. I have red LED's in the bottom running lights (there now brake lights too). The colored plastic is so clear though that the leds look funny inside them.. so im going to see how the colored incandacents look (plus they are much cheaper ).

I definitly am pleased with them .. but if others can prevent fading by doing something with them, than all the power to them (and me!).

BTW its only the amber that has faded .. the red still looks great! ( i dont think the clear backup fading will be a problem )

Post up some pics comparing the two when you are finished. Do you think the fading is caused by UV degrading the plastic? I'm looking at one of them right now and would bet that you could take one apart and re-color it.

Ill snap a pic of what it looks like when i get off work.

Im not sure whats causing the fading .. it just looks like sun fade to me. Like the black handles on the jeeps fade with time... thats what it looks like just accelerated... and fading from amber to clear not black to grey.

If you haven't already, reading this entire thread and maybe the previous one (order #1) all the way through will probably save Chris a lot of typing, as you can easily get a feel for what a giant pain in the ass he has gone through. Some of the pitfalls:

Delays, shipping costs, storage fees, customs brokers, broker fees, shipping damage, slow responses from Alex Parts once they have the money, People ordering stuff and not paying, people paying slowly, having to ship damaged goods to people, having to sort, weigh, pack and ship thousands of dollars worth of stuff. Then loosing several hundred dollars in the end when all is said and done... That's just to recap the major points, I wont even get into the little soap opera near the end.

I'd guess that the reverse and yellow are the same piece molded in clear plastic and the yellow one is coated on the inside.

IMO a Yellow bulb will fix that right up... it'll look like clear corners or Altezza's, the yellow bulb will reflect around and make it less clear looking.

That first picture of you holding the light made me think of christmas morning..... just needed some wrapping paper on the floor

Yeah, i have a set of amber incandecents on the way from autolumination. I used some LED's in the bottom reds when i converted them to brake lights.. but they are so darn clearish that the LED's look funny in there. Im going to see how the amber incandecents look... and i may switch out the red LED's in the bottom for incandacents.. Everyone may be better off going with colored incandecents rather than LED's for these taillights... Of course that is all personal preference.
