OK so my 0331 i think just gave up and my motors blown right before winterfest .

I have swapped in a C.L. motor for a buddy before it sucked and i had to take it somewhere to get it tightened at the top of the bell housing where i couldnt reach . and he ended up with a motor that had issues a year and a half later..

L\im kind of in a time crunch and there is a Jasper rebuilt engine installer in town that will do it for 2,700 with a 3 year 1,000 mile warranty ..
as much as i have into this rig and as long as i plan to keep it a new or rebuilt seems to make sense..

Does anyone have experience with these motors and if so was it a positive exp. ?

im not shure if it will still come with the pre TUPY 0331 head and cause the same problem.. (im asking them )

was looking locally and i didnt see any used or to take out of a part out anyway.

The Shop is called Rhodes engine in Saint Louis

OK so Jasper claims there was nothing wrong with the 0331 head it was the stock gasket that was the issue .

He ignored me when i told him they didnt change it for no reason and said that whoever told me that was trying to get more $ out of me .. and then ignored me when i said it wasn't just information from one source or anyone that has anything to gain.

He was very rude ..

To Be Clear the guy at Rhodes (the local shop) was very nice

JASPER themselves were VERY rude

2700 seems like a lot of money. I know it can be done cheaper.

yep ive decided to see if i cant find whatever mileage running motor even if i have to make a good drive to get it and swap myself (probably only way to get done in time anyway) .. I want it running for W.F. BAD

I think i have to find a 2000 2001 though so thats making it harder.

You can use a '99 and earlier motor. Just swap in your cam sensor where the distributor is supposed to go, and make a bracket to hold the coil packs in place. A common way is to just use some sheet metal that holds the coil rail to the valve cover. If you have the Cali emissions package it is a bit more difficult, but a guy on here makes an adapter to fit the Cali emissions manifold to the earlier head.

Good to know about Jasper...

However, for future reference, keep in mind they fixed the 0331 head later on in the TJ I believe in '05. I had the same head issue on my Jeep, but caught it early. I replaced it with a newer TJ head so I didn't have the headaches anymore.

The Fixed ones say TUPY between 3rd and 4th cylinders apparently wich was what i was hoping that jasper used (still the 0331 but the revised one from what i read)

Im thinking i could get this to my door with 3 days or sp to spare

hmm ill have to look into this

As far as Jasper reliability is concerned, the 2.5 Jasper in my MJ has about 210,000 miles on it running strong. If all their engines do as good as mine, youll be fine!

hey there - your link was probably removed - you can PM me if you are free.

You could have gotten a stroker motor for a bit more, although not installed :)

The company is listed as engines direct..

Im kind of building an expedition rig and dont feel the need for the stroker and any other parts that may need to be improved to accomodate it and had reliability and simplicity in mind..

I was really happy power wise with my good ole stock 4.0 ( i am geared down to 4.56 and wont go past 33") and very rarely feel the need to really use a whole lot of the skinny pedal.. i have lockers now as well so not as much momentum should be needed now..
