Got a Dana 44 rear from Pick n Pull last 1/2 price weekend. Then courtesy of Letterman (thanks for the deal!) got a Detroit Locker and 4.56's for it. Yesterday I finally broke down and ordered the install kit and axle seals for it and the 4.56 and install kit for my D30 from Randy's Ring and Pinion in Everett Washington. They just showed up less than 24 hours later! Now the fun begins!!!!

Are you going to do the gears yourself?
Billy

No, although I'd like to learn how. I'm fortunate to have a connection to a mechanic who is an ex Chrysler certified mechanic who has extensive training in setting up gears who is going to do it as a side project for me. Hopefully I'll be able to participate in the process, it depends on his schedule. The drawback is it's going to cost me some $$. No matter how you look at it, regearing and locking up isn't cheap! So far without the labor I'm in for about $850, and I still have to get the axle bearings I forgot to get and I'll no doubt have to resize the rear driveshaft to compensate for the D44's pinion length. Oh and the brakes will need to be redone as well....there's always something else. Upside is once it's done I'll be equipped to take on any trail, and I can do about 6 trails per summer so next year should be good one!

Great to hear Ed!

If that locker dose not work out I will get your money back to ya. I really think it should be just fine if you can get that one side bearring on.

Can you get it done by Goatfest the "Rockin' Jamboree in Johnson Valley Nov. 21-23?" JV is too much fun, and if the USMC takes it over, this could be one of the last chances to get down there.

That's my goal, but the guy who was going to start it this weekend has to postpone until the 2nd weekend in November so it'll be close. I had talked to Jes before he went to Moab about riding shotgun with him down there to help spread the costs so that is still an option if my rigs not ready by then.
