Have any of you guys in socal ever been hassled or gotten tickets for not having flares? I'm thinking of going flareless but I don't want any tickets.

I have no flares and a full width axle in the rear and 1.25" spacers in the front with 33x12.50 MTs and my tires stick out about 3.5" on either side. I've had cops right behind me in the rain and not do anything. But is it legal no.

I think the rule is that your tire cannot stick out more then 2-3 inches on either side.

Hey we need to go wheelin!!!!

Sounds good! I've been pretty busy lately, but maybe we could meet up out by shredder canyon or someplace local. There's some other OK trails out by those buttes. Maybe on a week night after work since it's starting to stay lighter later.

You should come out to the SoCalXJ Jambo this weekend in Stoddard Valley. it's Friday - Sunday with runs on all three days.

I think the law in CA is really nothing sticking out past the fender/flares. Here's a link to look for yourself.

http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/vc/vctoc.htm

Here is the one vehicle code I could find on the subject.

"Fenders and Mudguards

27600. No person shall operate any motor vehicle having three or more wheels, any trailer, or semitrailer unless equipped with fenders, covers, or devices, including flaps or splash aprons, or unless the body of the vehicle or attachments thereto afford adequate protection to effectively minimize the spray or splash of water or mud to the rear of the vehicle and all such equipment or such body or attachments thereto shall be at least as wide as the tire tread. This section does not apply to those vehicles exempt from registration, trailers and semitrailers having an unladen weight of under 1,500 pounds, or any vehicles manufactured and first registered prior to January 1, 1971, having an unladen weight of under 1,500 pounds.

Amended Ch. 215, Stats. 1970. Effective November 23, 1970."
