Is AAA worth it?

Hey guys, does anyone have any pros / cons with AAA? I've never had it but my ole lady has had it for years and it's up for renewal, she is debating keeping it or not. I've never had experience with it so I am not sure how much value they offer. I think she mentioned it was 80 bucks a year and that includes just 4 service calls a year. I know they offer a lot of discounts with hotels and such but I get a lot of that with my employer so we haven't used the discounts hardly at all.

I have herd the tow service is good for just a few miles before you start having to pay, basically good enough to get you off the freeway if you break down sort of thing. She's only ever used it for dead batteries in the past never for towing. Seems rather pricey to me but if anyone can chime in with experience I would really appreciate it.

I have the premier and it is worth every penny. One of the best investments a Jeep owner can make.

It is also worth the money just to avoid the DMV as they can handle most vehicle related paperwork.

If you upgrade to the "gold", it's worth it. 100 miles tow pays for itself if you ever need to use it.

A friendly tip towards the driver can get you a little further then that too ;)

Before I owned a trailer, AAA tows payed for themselves. Some of the other discounts you can get thru them adds up to good savings.

I have the premier AAA also, have had it for 6 years now. in my opinion, it is worth every cent. Up to a 200 mile tow, 5 free service calls per year(VERY reasonable charges after those 5), discounts at a lot of places, free one day rental car if you needed to be towed, and being able to do all dmv business without ever having to go to dmv office(that alone is worth it to me).
the AAA people have all been extremely pleasant and helpful.
I would recommend it to anyone, especially wheelers.

Premier member here, The very first time I used it 3 years ago, I used all 200 miles, The driver told me it was a $600 bill. (Hotel stay/dinner for him included)

From that moment on, I wont go anywhere without it

I'll have to review my benefits, we just downgraded to AAA+ from the Gold plan.

I have used my AAA card for friend's vehicles more than my own. I just have to be present when the tow truck shows up. Last time I had to ride home in the tow truck, the driver commented that he had to renew his AAA. He said it was the best tow coverage on the market.

It's good peace of mind when you go on a road trip. I've only had to use it for short tows and lockouts. I also switched to AAA for auto and renters insurance. They saved me quite a bit over Mercury.

Thanks for all the input everyone, seems like we may be renewing then and upgrading to the better package then.

I I just have to be present when the tow truck shows up.

Or, alternatively, you can be at the destination waiting with your card. Some drivers gripe about it, but AAA will push it through.

Back in the 'dating' days I had AAA fetch a couple of surprise sleepovers for me, with their broken cars.

Don't forget the added benefits like Motel discounts. I'm a premier member and have been in fact I just received my 10yr member card this year. Weird this year I used a lot previous years not so much. Remember it covers the member so if broke down with a buddy you can still use just need ID and your membership card.

Among other things, Progressive offers 15 miles of free towing with their roadside to the spot of my liking, and costs me $46/year for both of my ZJ's. Not a bad deal if you ask me, considering AAA is $60 a year or so?

Yes, Insurance towing is good, not sure how fast, but will they change a tire for your wife in the middle of rain or snow storm and not charge extra? I've been there and AAA did for her :)
