Iron Scorpion Bumper Kit???

CO2 Gets hotter - you'll have more penetration. Works well with thick steel

Argon blend you'll be able to weld thicker stuff as well as thinner panels.

There may be more to this but this is what I've always believed.

Thanks, but what do you mean by thicker? Over 1/4"?

Just ordered mine. I'm a little intimidated though. First of all I'm kind of an inexperienced / crappy welder, but hey what a fun thing to start on.

Quick question for you all. All the welding I've done thus far has been on my 220V Stinkin Lincoln. I've only used Flux cored wire. Is that a big no-no on this bumper or did any of you use that in place of gas shielded? My heart won't be broken if I need to go get a tank and fill it, but just wondering. Also, if I get gas to shield it, what gas do I use? Argon or CO2? I'd like to use CO2 so I could use it to fill my tires on the trail too.

Anyway, all of your bumpers look awesome, major kudos to the crew over at Iron Scorpion and I'm 100% stoked about this bumper!

that'll be WAY more than enough, you could easily do it with a 110 flux core welder.
I've welded up to 1/4 plate with a 110V just make sure it's hot and you go slow. it'll be fun, my best advice is to space the plates using like a sawzall blade or something that thin, no more than that, and then you'll get much better penetration

Yea I used 75/25 argon/co2. Worked like a champ. Flux core is fine, and don't worry if they're not all pretty as long as you get good penetration. I would say 60% of the welds get grounded down anyway lol. You should be fine.

My girlfriend got me one for christmas... and a highlift! started this afternoon at five, quit at nine... got it completely tacked. for those of you who have one and havent started yet i will say it helps to have a second set of hands... i was surprised at how well this is going together. i highly recomend it! great product!

Looks like you have all of the essentials for a good build in cold Missouri:
1. Chop saw
2. BFH
3. Tall boy of Natty Light
4. A couple good ole' boys - "Helping out"

How can you go wrong !:laugh3:

Looking good. Yeah, I'm gonna have to get a buddy over to help me out, my wife is only helpful for a couple minutes then she starts to get....ahem...how you say...not helpful.

And your tacks look stronger than my beads.

One question though, since the hitch pin is "behind" the bumper do you have access to insert a pin when you put a hitch into that receiver?

how hard would it be to add a winch to this bumper or is it not possible/worth it?

Check this link out. This guy has a good write up on doing it on a bumper just like this one.

http://www.ericsxj.com/winch/winchbumper.htm

He has a whole bunch of good write ups on his web site to if you are planning to do other mods.

Mdub... the hitch pin is going to be an interesting issue... ive got the front engine skid on mine and with that on i can get my fingers close enough to touch the holes... but definately not remove a hitch pin... im think im going to trim some of my skid. but if it wanst there i dont think it would be an issue...

a lot of thought went in to this bumper i dont think he would include that feature but have it unuseable.

got most of the welding done. on the parts that i dont have finished do you think it really needed? ive got nearly 100% penetration and its tacked every 1" to 1-1/2".

another question... how did you guys get the inside corners around the hitch and shackle mounts so smooth?

and also i hardly ever MIG... do mostly stainless sheetmetal in which case i use a TIG... but like i said almost everything is 100% penetration... so not my best welding

carbide cutter on a die grinder, then some round files, finish with a DA and some 120g primer, sand paint.....Not to mention a flap wheel on an angle grinder, and a little 2in die grinder....all operater by the metal man SLIMSXJ

Very nice, Now I'm debating putting on a pre-bar after seeing yours. Looks pretty clean. I like the lights as well, good to see I'm not the only one :yelclap:

Yeah the stinger looks very good. Was it just one tube bent up, can't tell looks like just welded to top bumper surface? Anyway, looks great. I'd be surprised if Iron Scorpion doesn't use some of your guys' pics of your final products.

Oh forgot to mention, I got to test the integrity of mine the other night. Punished a deer doing about 50-52 mph. Hit it dead on, t-bone style. The bumper took it like a champ. All it did was misalign one of my fogs and one of my Hella 500's. And I hit this thing HARD. The doe skid for probably another 50ft across a driveway and though a ditch before coming to a stop.
